The Rosendale Theatre Collective is proud to announce a regional call to writers (who reside at least part-time in the Mid-Hudson Valley) for submission of original 10-12 minute plays for a fully produced festival of short plays that will be called The Love/Death Plays. The plays will receive 3 performances at the Rosendale Theatre at the end of July. The theme is Love/Death, both inescapable and both primary obsession in our lives. We invite different perspectives; humorous, poignant, realistic, surrealistic, musical, tragic and ridiculous. Small casts (no larger than 5) and very simple settings are requested. The 10-12 minute requirement will be strictly adhered to (this is around 12 pages of standard script format in 12 point type).
Submissions must be postmarked by June 3, 2019. Please mail 3 hard copies and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: The Rosendale Theatre, PO Box 545, Rosendale, NY 12472. A committee of theatre directors, who will announce the selections on June 21, 2019, will choose the plays. If you have any additional questions please contact Susan Einhorn, Artistic Director: [email protected]
Have fun, good luck and thank you for your interest in the Rosendale Theatre’s 3rd Short Play Festival!

Hope to see you all there. #HUDSY #MAY29TH

Truth! Youth Arts @ Rosendale Theatre

Truth!” A Dance, Music, Puppetry, and Spoken Word Event for Families
Rosendale, NY- Saturday, August 11th is the world debut of Truth! at The Rosendale Theatre.
Truth! is an original performance piece inspired by the life of Sojourner Truth featuring music, dance, spoken word and puppets co-created by the cast of local youth artists from ages 10 to 21.
Truth! is a collaboration of the The Redwing Blackbird Puppet Theater, The Center for Creative Education, The A.J. Williams-Myers African Roots Library, Youth Arts @ The Rosendale Theatre and Good Gourd, a musical group under the direction of Shekere Percussion Master, Carol Caru Thompson.
Original music by Rosendale middle-schoolers, Rhys Ellis and Maitreya Motel will be featured in the show.
A former slave here in Ulster County during the 19th Century, Sojourner Truth became an outspoken advocate for the abolition of slavery, temperance, and civil and women’s rights.
“All of the cast members have been learning about this strong and passionate woman. We have asked them to look inward to discover their own “truths” and are thrilled to see them stand up and share their discoveries onstage” stated Carrie Wykoff, Director of Youth Arts @ The Rosendale Theatre.
Truth! Is appropriate for the entire family and audience members will be invited to participate in a very special post-performance event outside of the theater.
The world premier of Truth! is produced as part of the Rosendale Theatre’s Summer Film & Performance Series for Families. This Series is funded with grant money made possible through the cooperation of Assembly member Kevin A. Cahill.
Truth! will be performed on Saturday, August 11th at 11AM at The historic Rosendale Theatre located at 408 Main Street in Rosendale, NY. Tickets are $8 for children and members and $10 for adult non members. 07/16/2018
