Including how-to tutorials, dyno testing, and popular modifications. Including how-to tutorials, and popular modifications. Including dyno testing engine modifications and performance parts! We also take our build(s) out on adventures! Our Baja Bug is modified to be super capable and reliable for extended overlanding trips. We'll show you where we take it and how it holds up to adventure travel.

Here’s today’s update on the VW Beetle Gasser! Among a ton of little things that aren’t very exciting, I cut a new profile on the right rear fender. It was a little wonky. And I marked out the dings and dents. Yup, there’s a few. 😂
We here at Fun With VDubs stand behind Adam's decision and are proud of the integrity he demonstrated by withdrawing from the Empi Engine Battle. While it was undoubtedly a difficult choice, he remained true to his principles. Based on the performance and preparation of his engine, there was a very strong possibility that he would have taken home the victory. Regardless of the outcome, his actions reflected the character and sportsmanship that competitors should strive for.
We too believe this engine competition is at a scale and importance that exceeds the current organizational capacity of Empi. Unfortunately, there were significant issues during the 2024 event, including the use of an inexperienced dyno operator during the preliminary rounds, which affected confidence in the process. This year has brought further problems, reinforcing concerns that the event requires more experienced management, technical oversight, and operational resources to better meet participants' and spectators' expectations.
So… let’s get back to the Gasser, and have some laughs!

Both Merri and I are so extremely grateful to have Adam as a friend and partner. He’s truly a class act.

This is my husband. Sunday afternoon. After the longest 48 hours of this journey so far.
He doesn’t know I took this picture.
The engine is done. The decision isn’t. And instead of spiraling, he’s in the shop finishing a customer’s car, because people are counting on him. That’s just who he is.
I watched him do the hard thing this weekend. The right thing. Even when it cost him something he had worked toward for a long time. Even when it hurt. Even when the joy got taken.
What the internet saw was a man holding the line. What I see is a man who has always held the line. In the shop, in our home, in the quiet moments nobody posts about.
I don’t know what tomorrow looks like yet. But I know who I married. And I’m not worried.

This morning Rob at EMPI did the right thing and returned to the original competition rules regarding the one and only fuel to be used at the EMPI Engine Battle. I would like to see a more sincere apology from him in regard to calling out Adam in a previous post. He really stuck his foot in his mouth this time.
