If you've been finding many of your recent search results being hijacked with AI results, there is a way to remove them now.

Adding the &udm=14 parameter to Google search URLs removes AI-generated results and ads, giving you a more traditional search experience. This can be done by manually appending &udm=14 to the end of your search URL. You can also set this up as the default search engine in Chrome by adding a new search engine with the URL template https://www.google.com/search?udm=14&q=%s.

Google will no longer be keeping a backup of the entire Internet. Google Search's "cached" links have long been an alternative way to load a website that was down or had changed, but now the company is killing them off. Google "Search Liaison" Danny Sullivan confirmed the feature removal in an X post, saying the feature "was meant for helping people access pages when way back, you often couldn't depend on a page loading. These days, things have greatly improved. So, it was decided to retire it."

The feature has been appearing and disappearing for some people since December, and currently, we don't see any cache links in Google Search. For now, you can still build your own cache links even without the button, just by going to "https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:" plus a website URL, or by typing "cache:" plus a URL into Google Search.

IBM uses the power of generative AI large language models (LLMs) to help bring COBOL applications into the modern era. The watsonx code assistant can be used to analyze, refactor, transform and validate COBOL applications using gen AI.

There are still billions of lines of COBOL code running production applications today. 84% of IBM’s Z mainframe clients are running COBOL applications. As such, there is a real imperative to help organizations modernize the code in a way that can be more easily maintained. With the lack of COBOL skills, IBM took specific aim at training its AI so it could actually understand the COBOL program language.

The new IBM offering can be used to “surgically extract” a logical business service from a large monolithic COBOL application. The watsxonx code assistant can then be used to generate a Java class hierarchy and transform the extracted COBOL code to Java. To validate the transformation, the solution generates automated tests to ensure the new Java code is semantically equivalent to the original COBOL.

The watsonx code assistant is not doing a line-by-line COBOL syntax translation to Java. The IBM approach is to take the intention of the COBOL code and map it into Java code that makes sense. Read much more about it in the article ....

Web fingerprinting is not a new technique to identify visitors on the Internet, but it is a technique that has become frighteningly good in recent time.

Fingerprinting describes a set of methods that sites and advertisers use to track users across the Internet. These methods do not rely on cookies and other common forms of tracking, which mostly rely on storing data on user devices, but use device parameters and other information to compute a fingerprint.

It should not come as a surprise that some browsers, mostly those focused on privacy, have implemented anti-fingerprinting protections in recent years. Brave Browser introduced language and font fingerprinting protections in 2022, and Mozilla's Firefox web browser anti-fingerprinting protections as part of the browser's Tracking Protection feature.

May 13: On this day in 1946, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted Southwestern Bell a license for radio-telephone service, which enabled those in St. Louis to be the first in the nation to make and receive phone calls in their car.

Covering a 75-mile radius of downtown calls to an auto had to be placed through a mobile operator at 2654 Locust. This was transferred over normal telephone lines to the office at 1010 Pine, where the call went out over VHF radio from the 250-Watt transmitter on the building's roof.

Service cost $15 a month, after a $25 installation fee. There was an additional charge per call, depending on time. As seen in this photo, necessary equipment took much of the trunk space. The first radiotelephone call was placed in St. Louis on Jun 17, 1946.

This was the MTS service, it was on 46-50 Mhz and was often referred to as the Highway Channels. Later systems moved up to the 140 Mhz band and was expanded to other cities.

The service was manual, push to talk, like the marian radio service. you call the operator then she placed the land connection. In the late 50's the first full duplex mobile units were installed.

Those allowed a telephone like conversation to occur where you could talk and hear the land line party. Later systems were the IMTS, Inproved MobileTelephone Service, which allowed a mobile user to receive dial tone and complete a call without an operator.

The East 56th street Manhattan Telephone building housed an IT&T Crossbar Switch to complete "Mobile Telephone Service" which were entirely different from the Western Electric Switches.

2 Years of not logging in = account deletion

Do not ever use any of the channels in between, it causes more problems for you and everyone else. It's better to be on the same channel as someone else, than picking one inbetween. Anything on another channel will appear as interference and cause slower connections.
Although these days I push most stuff to 5ghz.. that's stopped by walls so far less to conflict with.
