From our founder:
7 Leadership Lessons I’ve Learned Coaching Executives, Nonprofit Leaders, and Entrepreneurs

One of the greatest privileges of my work is having a front-row seat to leadership in action.

Over the years, I’ve worked with leaders navigating growth, uncertainty, organizational change, team challenges, and ambitious goals. While every situation is different, certain lessons seem to emerge time and again.

Not because they’re easy.

Because they’re true.

These seven lessons reflect patterns I’ve observed across industries, organizations, and leadership styles—and lessons that continue to shape my own approach to leadership.

Some are deceptively simple.

Most are easier to understand than they are to consistently practice.

💬 Which lesson resonated most with you?

Or perhaps more importantly:

What leadership lesson do you wish you had learned earlier in your career?

I’d love to hear your perspective.

From our CEO: A recent conversation stayed with me. I spoke with a nonprofit executive director who was balancing staff challenges, fundraising demands, volunteer coordination, board expectations, and community needs—all at once.

It reminded me of something I've seen throughout my career: teams that are deeply committed to a mission often spend so much time supporting others that they rarely have the opportunity to invest in their own growth and development.

So I'd like to do something about it: ExecBloom will donate a customized Leadership & Team Development Workshop to one nonprofit organization.

Know a nonprofit making a difference?

Tag them below by June 10 and tell us why their work matters.

Having worked alongside nonprofit leaders as a board member, volunteer, founder, and advisor, I've developed a deep appreciation for the people who turn meaningful missions into lasting impact.

Together, we'll focus on the areas that would be most valuable for the organization and its team—whether that's communication, leadership alignment, team effectiveness, resilience, navigating change, or other organizational development priorities.

I'll connect with leaders from nominated organizations over the coming weeks, and the selected organization will be announced on June 30.

Behind every meaningful mission is a team of dedicated people. I look forward to learning about the organizations you recommend.

Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs in leadership don’t come from working harder — they come from shifting perspective.

As leaders, the way we interpret pressure, setbacks, and even our own thoughts can shape how we lead through difficult seasons.

In her latest video, Marcia Barahona, our founder and CEO, shares a simple yet powerful shift that can create greater clarity, resilience, and intentionality during times of growth and change. Through our work at ExecBloom, we’ve seen firsthand the meaningful impact this perspective can have on leaders and organizations alike.

Our CEO, Marcia Barahona, is grateful for the invitation by Leadership Expert, Professor, and Radio Personality Rafael Vázquez Guzmán from KBBF 89.1FM to be on his radio segment, “Líderes del Futuro,” for a meaningful conversation about leadership, education, service, and the importance of expanding opportunities for Latinos through higher education and lifelong learning.

We deeply appreciate Rafael and KBBF for creating space for conversations that elevate Latino voices, immigrant stories, lifelong learning, and community impact. Media platforms like KBBF play an important role in informing, empowering, and uplifting our communities.

During the interview, they discussed Marcia’s personal journey as an immigrant, entrepreneur, executive coach, educator, and advocate for culturally relevant leadership development. They also explored the vision behind the Spanish-language online MBA program from Dominican University of California and the importance of expanding access to business education that reflects the experiences, strengths, and aspirations of our communities.

One of the values Marcia holds deeply is that leadership is rooted in continual learning and service to others. No matter where we come from, education has the power to transform lives, open doors, and create opportunities to give back in meaningful ways.

Thank you again to Rafael Vázquez Guzmán for the invitation and for highlighting conversations that matter to our communities.
