Industry bashing: use your favorite brands without ripping other ones apart.
Personal bashing: If you want to be a keyboard warrior, I hope you are willing to talk things out in person.

It’s a vicious sleep cycle, right? 😆😆

🧴 breaks down the cost of a hair service ⬇️
This is the cost of just the chemicals to do a typical service! Sure, I obviously don’t use that entire bottle of Olaplex on 1 client, but you get the picture! These products do not last very long before having to restock.
And these are JUST the chemicals!
Just to step foot in the salon everyday is an instant $50 per day
Then you have my $400ish website
My $45 booking app
A $50 box of foil
$200 bottle of the second part of your Olaplex treatment.
$1,000 shears
Shampoo, conditioner, styling products, towels, cleaning products, combs, brushes, bowels, credit card processing fees, TAXES, the list could go on & on!
The price of supplies in this industry has gone up drastically in the past year. & my most recent price increase doesn’t match the inflation of the cost of product to work let alone the inflation of everything else outside of the salon. Which means even though my prices went up, my take home hasn’t.
So please, be patient with your service providers who are raising their prices. No one is trying to price gouge & line their pockets. We’re simply just trying to stay in business.

I have heard this statement for years or the statement , all u do is cut hair all day. Well I can definitely say it’s much more than that for sure. It was my dream as a little girl to be like both my aunts who also done hair. Hairdressing is not always just cutting hair. It’s long hours, sometimes no lunch breaks, it’s being an ear for someone going through a hard time, it’s going through sickness such as cancer, it’s going to the funeral home to fulfill that last request of a special client, but it’s also happiness, such as weddings or a birth of a baby and that first haircut. My clients aren’t just clients, they become family, ones that I’ve laughed with, cried with, prayed with, and for this, I am truly blessed. It’s more than just a hairdresser, cutting hair. I’m thankful God allowed me to fulfill one of my dreams and thankful for each person that I have crossed paths with. 30 years in and still going, I’m more than just a hairdresser.
💙 shares her experience with this phrase ⬇️
When I was at school, and the careers advice lady asked me what I wanted to do for a job, I said I wanted to be a hairdresser. Her response was: ‘and I suppose you want to have a baby at 16 and live in Tovil, too.’
(Tovil is a village nearby where I grew up with lots of council housing, my best friend lived there.)
I was shocked at this comment at the time, and sadly I still witness this sort of mindset from people even now. If I’m out in social situations and meet people for the first time, often they’ll ask what I do and when I say ‘I’m a hairdresser’ I often get told by well meaning friends that ‘No, you’re much more than just a hairdresser’.
Yes I teach, travel and am a small business owner but I am also a hairdresser, and that is what is at the core of everything I do work wise. Without being ‘just a hairdresser’ none of the other stuff would be there. And I’m SO proud of it.
I know these friends mean well, but the problem is there is a HUGE stigma around hairdressing as a career still. And comments like this just don’t help in fighting it.
Hairdressing is a GREAT job and, just like allllll other jobs, you can dedicate as much time and effort into it as you like. Want to develop the skills to teach? Great. Want to own your own salon? Great. Want to NOT own your own salon? Equally great. (This is another one I’ve had to defend myself against SO many times.) OR want to become an excellent hairdresser who works in a salon and makes people feel incredible every single day? ALSO GREAT.
How do you change the stigma around, “just a hairdresser?” ⬇️

Sunday Funnies: Grandma always said!
If anyone has tried calling the shop in the past few weeks and not gotten an answer, I do apologize. I have been really sick, although I have tested negative 2 times for covid and flu. Hoping to be back in the shop by Wednesday. My appointment book is booked out into February so I appreciate your patience . I do ask if you are feeling bad at all, please reschedule. I do not want another backset. Thank u all so much and u r greatly appreciated.

🐶 Does this remind anyone of their client(s)?
