Which spring blossom is your favorite?

I’ve been fully immersed in creating and capturing new floral portraits and art- which I absolutely LOVE the creation process. The sitting at the computer and sorting, culling, formatting, editing part…not so much! I’m SO far behind going through my photos of the last few months. But these were a couple golden ones I got last week that I just had to get out. I am so aching for spring and warmer weather and all the blossoms!

What have you been creating lately?

I have been creating in a bit different way lately- more with my camera. I’ve been immersed in 2 months of frozen flowers and experimentation. This is one of the Frozen Alstroemeria I captured last November 2025.
I have always felt very intimidated sharing the more intimate artistic aspects of my creating because it requires vulnerability which is not my strong suit. But I forget that God gave me this gift to share- so I’m trying to open up more and share the more vulnerable creations as I’m working through new experiments and experiences. I hope to be able to create an entire collection of frozen flowers. What do you think? Tell me what speaks to your soul?

Our warrior elf at the hobbit door for the costume contest. We really enjoyed the festival 2025 in West Fork, Arkansas! She loves any excuse to get dressed up in ren faire dress.

💭 Personal inspiration: I have always loved the look of whimsical painterly style art. It transports you to a different age of sophistication and elegance and often showcases the illusion of movement in a still subject. When I found that you can use ice to help achieve some of that painterly style texture without any digital manipulation I was addicted! In a time when there is so much “AI” or “fake” content, it is refreshing and extremely satisfying to create something REAL and tangible! Each flower turns out utterly unique. There is a lot of randomized experimental results when working with ice. It is completely unpredictable and many variables are entirely out of your control. Yet the moment I pulled this one out of the freezer and it started to frost up, I knew it was golden! The way the water pulled pigment from the blossom to “paint” the background is absolutely magical and 100% luck!

📸 Photography techniques: interestingly this is simply a quick iPhone shot- nothing fancy. Just a quick shot I took to show what I’m working on. The REAL photo with the actual camera is even better! The trick with this piece is freezing the flower in stages and leaving some of the flower and petals uncovered from the ice. The magic happens within the first 5-10 minutes after it is removed from the freezer and it begins to frost over. It doesn’t last long, as it warms up the frost melts and it loses a bit of the mystical effect.

🌷 Flower type: I found this sweet Dahlia at , a local pick your own flower farm. The season is coming to a close so it is getting harder to find these, but i was very fortunate that day. They had a few blossoms left. I loved the layers depth and variation of color on the petals. And when frozen it became even more pronounced.

☀️ Lighting conditions: I used natural light about 3pm in the afternoon in my front driveway. This was placed in the direct sunlight to give it the warmth. But I used a soft diffuser to reduce strong shadows and harsh glare.

Sneak peek into my latest creative experiment 👀

Turning fresh blooms into frozen illusions of fine art 🌸
This is how I capture flowers in ice to create painterly macro photos that look like watercolor and oil paintings — all done in camera, not Photoshop! Be sure to follow for all the latest in my projects and the final results.

The final gold dusting took this medallion from basic to heirloom.

The secret to that vintage bronze finish? It’s all in the aged gold dry brushing to the edges. Amazing how that one little touch completely changed the entire piece!

I’m painting a ceiling medallion! This COULD be finished as it is…but I’m matching it to a light fixture so I still have one more step to go…stay tuned!

Working on a new project… so far, I got the flowers…stay tuned for the next step.
