When we see the FOIA used for political battles and twitter wars, it’s easy to forget that it’s more commonly used by the public to access traffic studies, rezone proposals, and animal services reports. Any time you ask a city or county department for a record, they give it to you because FOIA tells them to. It’s how we find fraud and hold our government accountable. We have a right to transparency, and that right belongs in our constitution.
Transparency advocates hear public input on proposal to enshrine FOIA in Arkansas Constitution - Arkansas Advocate Committee members said they will compile and make public at least one more draft before submitting the proposal to the state attorney general.

We’ve got a right to know what our government is doing. It’s the only way we can hold them accountable. I’m proud of this bipartisan effort to protect our right to know by putting it in our Constitution.
