IRS Gives Tax Relief to Victims of Hurricane Irma; Like Harvey, Extension Filers Have Until Jan. 31 to File; Additional Relief Planned | Internal Revenue Service IR-2017-150, Sept. 12, 2017 –– Hurricane Irma victims in parts of Florida and elsewhere have until Jan. 31, 2018, to file certain individual and business tax returns and make certain tax payments, the Internal Revenue Service announced today.

In the past few weeks we have had a number of clients call to tell us they received a phone call from the IRS claiming there was a warrant out for their arrest for failing to pay income taxes. Please remember that the IRS will never contact you via telephone. If you receive a phone call like this write down the number and call the IRS Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.

FYI - Starting this year we will need to have a copy of your drivers license (and your spouses license, if applicable) in order to e-file NYS returns.

Business owners take note of a few changes for this coming tax season. . . Regular C Corporation tax returns (Form 1120) are now due April 15th and Partnership returns (Form 1065) are due March 15th. Also 1096/1099 filings are now due January 31st.

For those of you that qualify, a rebate check from NYS will be making it's way to your mailbox soon. Check out NYS website to see if you qualify.

Family tax relief credit In the Fall of 2014, the Tax Department will automatically mail checks to eligible taxpayers. If you are eligible for the credit, you do not have to apply. If you think you are eligible, but do not receive a check, you will be able to have your case reviewed.
