When money runs short at the end of the month, Betty has a rule. Andy eats first.
Andy is her dog, and he is also her company and her reason to get up in the morning. Like many seniors in Placer County, she would skip her own groceries before she would let him go hungry.
That is what our AniMeals program is for. The same volunteers who bring Betty her Meals on Wheels also bring food for Andy, so she never has to choose between caring for herself and caring for him.
AniMeals lost its funding, and we are raising $15,000 by July 15 to keep it going for the 82 local seniors and the pets who keep them company.
If you would like to help keep Betty and Andy together, you can give through the link in the first comment.

Eric retired about six years ago, and he's spent four of those years delivering meals for Meals on Wheels in Placer County.
When you ask him why, the answer goes back to his father.
Eric watched his dad give to others throughout his life, and he wanted to carry that example forward.
His faith is part of it too, guiding him toward service and toward his neighbors.
For Eric, a delivery is never just a drop-off. It's a chance to honor the man who raised him and to look after the people in his community. We're grateful he chose to spend his retirement this way.
If Eric's story speaks to you, there's room for you on our team.

Three days a week at six locations across Placer County, and five days a week at the Lincoln Senior Center, our Senior Cafes are open and the lunch is always hot.
Each freshly prepared meal costs Seniors First more than $6 to produce.
For seniors 60 and older, the suggested contribution is $6. For those who cannot contribute, the answer is still yes.
No one is turned away from a meal because they cannot or choose not to make a contribution. That is a commitment we take seriously.
What our neighbors find when they walk through the door is more than a nutritious lunch.
They find a lively, welcoming room, familiar faces, and the kind of easy connection that keeps people feeling part of something.
If you or someone you know might enjoy a warm meal and some good company, reservations are required. Give us a call at (530) 889-9500 and we will take care of the rest.

We're proud to share that Seniors First has earned the 2026 Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid, the highest level of recognition for nonprofit accountability.
The Platinum Seal means we've gone beyond standard reporting to share detailed information about our mission, programs, leadership, finances, and measurable impact with the public.
It's our way of making sure that every donor, partner, and community member can see exactly how their support is being put to work.
For 55 years, this community has trusted us to care for Placer County seniors, and we take that trust seriously. If you'd like to see our full profile, visit our Candid page at the link in the comments.

Louise is 95 years old and has been on Meals on Wheels since October 2024.
She'll tell you the program has helped her stay independent at home much longer than she could have managed on her own.
Without it, meeting her nutritional needs would be a real challenge, especially now that she can no longer drive.
When asked about her favorite part of the program, Louise laughed and said that sometimes the delivery includes an extra treat.
That's what we love about the people we serve. Louise doesn't ask for much. She's grateful, she's resilient, and she makes the most of every day.

As Older Americans Month wraps up, here's a reminder that championing your health doesn't have to mean going it alone.
Across Placer County, Seniors First is here to help older adults take care of themselves in ways that are simple, practical, and meaningful.
A nutritious meal delivered to your door, a safe ride to the doctor, a phone call to our Information and Assistance team when you're not sure where to turn, and a Senior Cafe lunch where you can enjoy a meal and connect with your neighbors.
These aren't extras; they're essentials.
If you or someone you love could benefit, we'd love to hear from you. Call us at (530) 889-9500 or visit seniorsfirst.org.

This Memorial Day, Seniors First honors the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
Their courage and selflessness gave us the freedoms and communities we cherish today.
We pause to remember them and to express our deepest gratitude for everything they gave so that others could live freely.
Today, we remember. Today, we are grateful.

May is National Pet Month, and at Seniors First, we know that for many older adults, a pet isn't just a companion, they are family.
Our AniMEALS program delivers fresh pet food right alongside Meals on Wheels, ensuring that homebound seniors in Placer County don't have to choose between their own nutritional needs and caring for the animals that bring them comfort and companionship.
It's one more way we help seniors stay independent, healthy, and connected at home.

May is Older Americans Month, and this year's theme is Champion Your Health.
It's a reminder that healthy aging starts with small, steady choices: staying active, eating well, keeping up with preventive care, and staying connected to the people and community around you.
Here in Placer County, Seniors First helps older adults do exactly that. Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious meals and a daily check-in.
Our transportation program helps seniors get to medical appointments.
Our Senior Cafes bring people together for a healthy lunch and activities like Bingo and wellness events.
Our Information and Assistance team connects families with the resources they need.
Championing your health is easier when you're not doing it alone.
If you know an older adult in Placer County who could use a little support, give us a call at (530) 889-9500.
