I'm considering purchasing an "81 El Camino and the seller says it has a bad "fuel gauge sending unit". Is that a thing and how big of a deal is it to fix?

[09/17/21]   It's National Step Family Day

Date When Celebrated : Always September 16

Step Family Day was established to recognize and show appreciation for the importance and value of step-parents and extended families. Our research discovered that this holiday was founded by Christy Borgeld of Grand Rapids, Michigan. We also found some references to this event as "National" Step Family Day. We found no documentation that this holiday is a true "national day", which requires an act of Congress.

Step Family Day was first celebrated with a picnic on September 16, 1997. The suggested method of celebration is a picnic at a park. Since it's inception, it has slowly gained recognition and popularity.

Step families are created through death of a parent, divorce or separation. A step mom or dad comes into our life, often accompanied by a step brother or sister.

Decades ago, most marriages lasted for life. Separation and divorce was often looked down upon. In today's society divorce and remarriages are commonplace. Over 50% of all marriages end up in divorce. That means over half of us are divorced and/or children of divorces. That gives us cause to recognize the extended family, and how they can enrich our lives.

Quote of the Day: "Family is not an important thing. Family is everything." - - Michael J. Fox

[09/08/21]   It's Pardon Day

Date When Celebrated : This holiday is always held on September 8

Pardon Day is today. Its an opportunity to seek forgiveness where needed.

Today is also a day to say "Pardon Me", or Excuse Me" as appropriate. In today's busy society, too many people race about their lives, forgetting the small courtesies in life. Among the easiest things to let slip by, is etiquette.

Use Pardon Day to reaffirm your manners. Say "Pardon Me" or "Excuse Me" as appropriate. People will like you more. And, your mom will be so proud!

You can also use this day to seek pardon or forgiveness for mistakes and grievances you have committed. Take the opportunity to clean the slate and start anew.

Also see Forgiveness Day. This day, celebrated in June, has substantiated roots and history.

Today's Quote: " Reality leaves a lot to the imagination." - - John Lennon

History and Origin of Pardon Day:
The roots of this day go back to September 8, 1974. On this day, newly installed President Gerald Ford issued a Presidential Proclamation pardoning President Richard M. Nixon of any wrong doing related to the Watergate scandal.

[09/02/21]   It's VJ Day

Date When Celebrated :

August 14 - Japan surrenders

August 15 - Surrender announced to the world

September 2 - Ceremony and formal signing of surrender

VJ Day marks the end of WWII, and the cessation of fighting against Japan. It is called "Victory In Japan Day or "Victory Over Japan Day".

The confusion over three dates:

There is some confusion over what date is V-J Day. You can consider any (or all) of three dates as V-J Day. President Harry S. Truman caused some of this confusion........

On August 14, 1945, the Japanese government cabled to the U.S. their surrender. This is the date of most modern observances.

On August 15, 1945, news of the surrender was announced to the world. This sparked spontaneous celebrations over the final ending of World War II.

On September 2, 1945, a formal surrender ceremony was held in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri. At the time, President Truman declared September 2 to be VJ Day.

Regardless of which day you view as VJ Day, World War II was finally over.

A Little VJ Day History
The war in the Pacific was hard fought and bloody. The tide had definitely turned, and the U.S. military was fighting island by island towards Japan. Resistance was fierce. Casualties on both sides were high.

The U.S. had developed the atomic bomb. The U.S. government was anxious to end the war, and stop the loss of American lives.

On August 6th, 1945, the United States military dropped an atomic bomb over the city of Hiroshima, Japan in an effort to force Japan into an immediate, unconditional surrender. Instead of immediately surrendering, the Japanese government debated what to do. So, the U.S. dropped a second atomic bomb on August 9, 1945 over the city of Nagasaki, Japan.

On August 14, 1945, Japanese Emperor Hirohito cabled the U.S. to surrender, and agreed to the terms of the Potsdam Declaration.

On August 15, 1945, news of the surrender was announced to the world. World War II was finally over. Hostilities ended.

On September 2, 1945, the Japanese formally surrendered aboard the U.S. battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. President Truman declared this to be V-J Day.

Did You Know? The battleship USS Missouri was chosen for the formal surrender ceremony, as she was named after President Truman's home state.

[08/31/21]   It's National Eat Outside Day

Date When Celebrated : This holiday is always held on August 31

Ahh, the last day of August! Summer is almost over, yet you can't get enough of the great outdoors. The sun is bright and warm, the weather is great. National Eat Outside Day couldn't come at a better time.

People have been eating outdoors since the days of the caveman. Nowadays, people eat most, if not all, of their meals indoors. Eating outdoors has become more of a special event, than a regular occurrence. National Eat Outdoors Day, is an opportunity to change that, if only for a day.

Celebrating this special day is very easy. Find a picnic table, a park bench, or an outdoor restaurant. You can also spread a blanket out on the lawn. Use one of these special places to eat all of your meals, snacks, popsicles and ice cream, outside in sunshine and fresh air. You will be glad you did!

Did You Know? Sidewalk cafes first appeared in the early 1900's in Manhattan in New York City.

It's National Dog Day

Date When Celebrated : This holiday is always observed on August 26

National Dog Day has two goals: to honor dogs, and to rescue dogs from homelessness and abuse. It's an opportunity for us to recognize and appreciate the value and importance of dogs in our lives.

This day is intended to honor dogs for all that they do for us. In addition to giving love and companionship, dogs help us out in countless ways. They are watchdogs for our safety. They lead the blind. Dogs aid in search and rescue, and they seek out bombs and drugs.

The second goal of National Dog Day is to rescue dogs in need. On occasion, dogs need us to save them from homelessness and abuse. The goal of the National Dog Day foundation is to rescue 10,000 dogs a year. Lend a hand to help a dog in need today, or any day.

The motto for today is: "Saving 10,000 Dogs - One Day at a Time".

Today's Chuckle: " I looked up my family tree and found three dogs using it." - - Rodney Dangerfield

History and Origin of National Dog Day:
National Dog Day was created in 2004 by animal welfare advocate and Pet Lifestyle Expert Colleen Paige. The date was chosen, as this was the date the founder's father got the first family dog.

President George W. Bush, a dog owner himself, sent a letter to the foundation in support of National Dog Day.

Spotted this on a test drive. After a while it landed on the dash. It jumped face first hard into the windshield at one point. It made it back to the shop and I released it in the field. Does it have a story to tell the others now.

It's National Banana Split Day

Date When Celebrated : This holiday is always enjoyed on August 25

Today is a day that you can go ape over. It's a very ap-pealing day. It's National Banana Split Day!!

On August 25, 1904, the banana spilt was first created in the small town of Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Strickler liked to experiment with different combinations of ice cream flavors and toppings. He created the banana split on this day, and sold it for 10 cents, which was a lot at the time. As a matter of fact, it was twice the price of other sundaes. The banana split caught on with students from local Saint Vincent College, and from there, its popularity spread. Walgreens gets recognition for spreading the banana split across the nation when they added it to their soda fountain menu.

Today, Banana splits are a standard item on the menu of just about anywhere ice cream is sold around the country. It became so popular, that there was a television show for kids called "The Banana Split Adventure Hour". It aired form 1968 - 1970.

Did You Know? Banana Splits have 850 - 1500 delicious calories.
