The business - which works mostly on multi-family and senior housing, retail, industrial, community/recreational facilities, municipal, education, ecclesiastical and interior design projects - was founded in Rockford by Jesse Barloga in 1919. In 2016, Tyson and Billy Architects acquired Bradley & Bradley Architects, which was founded in Rockford in 1887 and is one of the oldest architecture firms in the state.

With the wonderful poinsettia we received yesterday, we decided to share some facts about this flower.
Did you know the poinsettia first came to the US from Mexico around 1825 by Joel Roberts, but it was not until the 1920's that the poinsettia started to take root in American culture?
There are more than 100 varieties of poinsettia and they come in multiple colors including red, white, pink, burgundy, marbled and speckled.
Poinsettia's association with Christmas dates to 16th century Mexico. Legend tells of a girl who worried she did not have a gift to celebrate Jesus’s birthday because she was too poor. An angel (some versions it is her cousin) tells her to give any gift with love. The young girl gathered weeds from alongside the road and placed them by the Nativity in a chapel. Miraculously the weeds bloomed into beautiful red stars.
In Mexico the poinsettia is a perennial shrub that will grow 10-15 feet tall.

Here are some pictures taken today on a site visit to the Edward M. Pooley Apartment building in El Paso, Texas. Tyson and Billy Architects is working with the Housing Authority of the City of El Paso on the design for a compete rehabilitation of this 7 story, 123-unit independent living building.

Tyson and Billy Architects designed Harrison Square Apartments, a 20 unit, accessible housing apartment building located in Rockford, Illinois that was completed in 2009.

Tyson and Billy Architects designed Deer Creek Manor, a 25 unit senior apartment building, located in Danville, Illinois for Lutheran Social Services of Illinois. The building features a community room with large screen TV, library, game area and 24-hour on-call maintenance. This project was funded utilizing the HUD 202 program.
