We thought we would share this 100 Year Centenary Special Collector Opportunity from Alessi, one of our flagship lines here at J.R. Kortman. The Brandt Tea & Coffee Set illustrates how timeless, enduring, and valuable great design can be. Only one set is available for purchase in North America! (We can arrange for the sale.)
MARIANNE BRANDT TEA & COFFEE SET
Notes from Alessi:
As we take this time to look back through our 100 year history and archives, we are pleased to offer a very special opportunity for one collector to own a museum quality piece which has helped shape design history. Tea & Coffee Set designed by Marianne Brandt in 1924 composed of Kettle, Coffee Pot, Milk Jug, Sugar Bowl and Tray.
All the pieces are in 925/1000 silver.
The handles and the knobs are in ebony. The lid of the sugar bowl is in plexiglass. Each piece bears, in addition to the legal identification mark and the imprint of the silver title, the following engravings: mark of the Officina Alessi, symbol of the Bauhaus- Archive, year of production, progressive numbering. The Tea and Coffee Set designed by Marianne Brandt was created in the Metal Workshop of the Bauhaus School, in 1924. This Tea and Coffee Set, such as other objects created in the Metal Workshop of the Bauhaus School, are being featured in Alessi catalogue because they represent the activities of one of the Research Laboratories in Applied Arts whose mission is something Alessi holds dear to heart. We chose them also as a reminder of the extraordinary tension in design of those years during which the objects were created, and because they seemed to be unusually in sync not only with technology but also with the spirit of our times. Special Collector Opportunity:
Only 1 Set Available in North America

Here's a great idea for a New Year's keepsake from Tin-Type Photos by Alderleaf Artworks...
Photographer Brian Pierson will be doing portraits in his Pop-up Studio upstairs in the Kortman Gallery for 1 day only, December 29th by appointment only…contact Brian @ 970/390-0374
Tin-Type Photos by Alderleaf Artworks is a tin-type photography studio owned by Brian Pierson. He built a large format camera and learned the art of historical photography during the 2020 pandemic. Brian, who’s originally from Stillman Valley, has been working and living in Skagway, AK since 2014.
During the off season Brian travels around the contiguous lower 48 taking portraits and scenic photos with his historical and handmade equipment.
Wet Plate photography was invented in 1851 by Frederick Scott Archer. Wet plate collodion is the processes of coating an aluminum plate with salted collodion which is then submerged in silver nitrate to creates a photosensitive material. While still wet from the silver bath the plate is then exposed to light (1-2seconds) through a lens of a large format camera.
Immediately after exposure developer is poured over the plate in a safe light darkroom. This creates a negative of the image onto the aluminum plate. After rinsing for several moments the plate is then dipped into a fixing solution that causes the image to become a positive. We now have your photo!
After more rinsing and then drying a homemade vanish is hand poured onto the image to preserve the image for generations to come.
What to expect / what's provided
Due to long exposure, movement in subjects will cause blurring in the Image.
You can expect to understand the historical practice of Wet-plate Collodion.
During the process you will sit for a portrait and be able to leave with your original Tin-type Photo.
