Rockford’s Christmas Tree: The Tradition Continues…

The search for Rockford’s downtown Christmas tree started back in August. Eventually, the perfect tree – a 38 ft. Blue Spruce – was donated by Phil Guardino, who recalls planting the tree in 1955 for his parents’ 50th anniversary. Then, for the 8th year in a row, Tree Care donated its services to harvest, transport and install Rockford’s downtown Christmas tree at Davis Park, just in time for this year’s Stroll on State. Drought Takes a Toll on Your Trees

This fall you might notice that trees are turning color earlier and are more muted than usual. Our trees are trying to tell us something. This summer’s drought conditions – we’re down 14 inches from normal rainfall – puts even mature trees under unusual stress and makes them more vulnerable to disease and insect infestation. Urban trees with shallower roots are particularly susceptible to the effects of severe drought. Trees with girdling roots that emerge from the ground and wrap around the trunk put additional stress on your trees by restricting the movement of water and nutrients.

Concerned about the health of your trees? A visit by one of our Arborists is the first step to keeping your trees healthy, growing strong and living longer. Call 815-965-5757.

The Bur Oak can grow to 100 ft. with a massive trunk to support its heavy, horizontal limbs. At Tree Care, we do everything in our power to keep these stately, long-living trees growing strong, with regular pruning and timely treatment. We also have the expertise and heavy equipment needed to safely, quickly and effectively remove even the largest trees when the time comes. When this big bur was damaged and became a risk to the home nearby, Tree Care came to the rescue, with our 100 ft. crane and 84 ft. lift. For the biggest jobs and best results, call Tree Care.

Arbor Day Post #1:
1/3: The amount of fossil-fuel emissions global trees reduce annually.
1: The number of days a large tree can supply oxygen for up to 4 people.
20%+ : The amount of the world’s oxygen produced in the Amazon rainforest.
10 degrees F: The temperature reduction that happens in a city where trees offer shading for area homes and streets, and where they can release water v***r at night through their leaves.
1 year: The amount of time it takes for 1 acre of mature trees to absorb the amount of CO2 produced by a car driven 26,000 miles.
25%: The amount an average household will reduce its heating and cooling energy consumption through carefully positioned trees.
Every dollar: Spent on planting and caring for a community tree yields benefits that are two to five times that investment. These benefits include cleaner air, lower energy costs, improved water quality and stormwater control, and increased property values.
40: Our team of dedicated employees and The Power of Tree Care Enterprises.

Your Trees Have Value

You might be surprised to learn how significant the economic and environmental benefits are of your trees. The Arbor Day Foundation has a nifty calculator that can use to estimate the benefits of your individual street-side trees. With inputs of location, species and tree size, users will get an understanding of the environmental and economic value trees provide on an annual basis. All the more reason to take care of these valuable assets. Visit:

Being Outside Can Do Wonders for Your Health

Science is discovering some amazing things about the great outdoors: being outside can do wonders for your health. “There’s an urgent need emerging in science and at the gut level to increase the nature experience. This field is just exploding,” says Gretchen Daily, a professor of environmental science at Stanford University.

No wonder our Tree Care crews relish their work outdoors!
