RDL Staked U-Joints :: RDL Staked U-Joints :: Rockford Driveline
Snap rings and staking are the two most common retention methods used to retain bearing cups to the yokes and simultaneously center and align the axes of the shafts.
Staking operations use expensive machinery to center the bearing cups and yokes, and then deform the yokes to secure the bearing cups in position.
Further, it is difficult to securely re-stake a bearing cup in a yoke that has been previously staked due to the already deformed yokes and therefore, most staked universal joint driveshaft’s are not serviced but are replaced.
Snap rings are more commonly used to secure the bearing cups within the yokes in place of staking and allow for ease of serviceability. Rockford Driveline has discovered that many of the driveshaft u-joints & yokes that are staked-in do in fact have either a machined surface on the inside of the yoke ears or the forging was designed with a flat surface that allows us to manufacture u-joints with inside “C” clip style snap ring retainers to fit this area so you can remove the original factory staked-in universal joints and replace them with the 430 Series u-joints saving yourself money to service instead of purchasing new driveshaft’s to fix your vehicle.

SPECIALITY 'STAKED-IN' REPLACEMENT U-JOINT
Model Number: 430-14
Measure Twice!!!
Take the time to double check the application from the vehicle fitment below before you press or cut out your original equipment u-joints... As hard as we try to provide you with the most accurate fitment information you should always know before you cut that the part you are replacing is going to solve the problem...
*To use this replacement u-joint you must be able to machine the inside dimension to 1.780" on the OE steel fl**ge yoke. If you are not able to precisely machine the original fl**ge yoke, RDL offers a new fl**ge with the correct dimensions to work with the 430-14 U-Joint. No machining of the aluminum weld yoke is necessary as long as its not worn.

Wondering what you can do with all those Aluminum Driveshafts that use the Staked-In style U-joints? Rockford Drive Line has your solution... The 430 Series fl**ges above will allow you to salvage the aluminum tubing and yokes by replacing the failed u-joint with a 430-14, along with the steel fl**ge yoke. The U-Joints work with the aluminum weld yoke as long as they are not worn. If your aluminum tubing or weld yokes are damaged the 1310 conversion fl**ges are the way to go... Pick up a set of fl**ges, build a replacement shaft and save BIG MONEY!!
