From Tolkien’s 1931 poem “Mythopoeia”, which he wrote to refute his friend C.S. Lewis’ view at the time that myths were just “lies breathed through silver”. Tolkien instead argues that sub-creation in loving mimicry of our Father creates truth and light outside of “recorded time”. We are in the likeness of the True, and following Him IS the mission.
