New Episode: The Anxious Self

As humans we experience some level of anxiety - fear, worry, stress. Anxiety can be extremely overwhelming, so we try to avoid it. We try to not think about it or find ways to distract ourselves from. Doing this however, increases anxiety over time.
Over the next 5 weeks I will be inviting you to meditate on anxiety. I invite you to turn toward your anxious thoughts rather than away from them.

This meditation will set up the foundation for the next 5 weeks. For this first meditation, we will identify the anxious self, or the part of you that experiences anxiety. Creating separation from your core self and your anxious self allows you to be present with anxiety in a calm, loving manner.

I listened to a podcast by Tara Brach the other day where she asked this question.
We get so caught up in our heads that we forget to drop down into our bodies. Of course it is extremely helpful, useful, and necessary to think and use our minds, but it is equally essential to stay connected to the physical self.

Take a moment now to notice how you physical feel. What sensations are you experience? What emotions arise? What is it like to be you today?
.
If staying connected to you body is difficult, I encourage you to journal today and to reflect on what separates you from your self? Is it worries about the future? Regrets about the past? Distractions in your environment? A difficult relationship with the physical body? Take time today to reflect on your experiences with your self, the world around you, and invite introspection to take place.

One day during a meditation, I saw myself walking through an open, white space. I came to a door, and with no prompting, I instinctively knew this was a doorway to my heart. Not the physical, blood-pumping sense of the word heart, but the access to the love that exists within the physical body. I opened the door to discover a vast, limitless garden - surrounded by luscious greenery and an abundance of flowers. I was instantly reminded that I am sacred. I was reminded how to love from the inside out, and to always be cultivating my sense of self.
