Do you truly understand obesity?
Unhealthy eating habits significantly increase the likelihood of developing obesity!
The main cause of obesity is energy imbalance, meaning that calorie intake exceeds the calories the body expends. Poor dietary habits, such as excessive consumption of high-sugar, high-fat, and ultra-processed foods, are common contributing factors. In addition, genetic, metabolic, and hormonal factors also play a role. Preventing obesity requires lifestyle changes: controlling total calorie intake, increasing physical activity, choosing natural, minimally processed foods, and maintaining a regular sleep schedule. Consistently combining a healthy diet with exercise can effectively reduce the risk of obesity.

Obesity stems from a complex mix of factors, primarily an energy imbalance (consuming more calories than burned) driven by poor diet (processed foods, sugary drinks), lack of physical activity (sedentary lifestyles, increased screen time), insufficient sleep, and chronic stress, alongside genetic predispositions, certain medications, underlying health conditions, and socioeconomic/environmental influences. Prevention focuses on adopting healthier habits: balanced eating (more fruits/veg, less sugar/fat), regular exercise (150 mins/week), good sleep hygiene, stress management, and reducing screen time.

Obesity problems caused by age
Obesity in older adults increases risks for diabetes, heart disease, stroke, inflammation, joint issues (osteoarthritis), sleep apnea, and certain cancers, exacerbated by age-related metabolic slowdown, fat redistribution (more abdominal fat), and decreased muscle mass (sarcopenia), leading to fatigue, reduced mobility, and higher healthcare needs, even as some older individuals face paradoxically higher mortality from weight loss due to muscle/bone loss.

Transforming Lives with Action
Diabetes is a growing epidemic that cannot be ignored, so when bills are introduced on the federal or state level that positively affect people with diabetes, we are among the first to show support and fight for your rights. And we won’t back down until everyone affected by diabetes has the medication and insulin they need to live, until everyone is treated fairly in schools and the workplace regardless of diabetes status, and until health equity is the standard in Congress and in every health care provider’s office. Many Americans don’t even have access to adequate health care, and we believe health equity is a human right.
Our goals:
Make insulin affordable and accessible for all who need it
Promote health equity for at-risk populations affected by diabetes and prediabetes
Put an end to all forms of diabetes discrimination
Increase overall funding dedicated to diabetes research and programs

Using incorrect exercise methods for weight loss can lead to various health risks. For example, improper posture can cause joint injuries and muscle strains. Excessive training intensity and frequency can lead to overtraining, resulting in fatigue, weakened immunity, and even affecting the endocrine system. Furthermore, focusing solely on aerobic exercise without strength training can lead to muscle loss and a decrease in basal metabolic rate, which ultimately hinders long-term weight loss. Lack of professional guidance can also result in poor weight loss results or even weight regain. Therefore, choosing appropriate exercise methods, exercising within your limits, and seeking professional guidance are crucial.
