Please see the attached Executive Order Closing Access to the Qualla Boundary. While I understand this may create difficulty for some individuals, its what the EBCI leadership feels must be done to protect our community.

03/19/2020

Greetings All,
The essence of EBCI Transit’s Mission Statement is to, provide safe and dependable transportation for our communities, this includes our staff. We provide many vital trips in each of the communities for many purposes. In consideration of our community’s safety and well-being, service changes will be implemented by Transit. Reduction in service will begin on 3/19/2020. Listed below are the service changes and trip requirements that will be implemented. It is important to keep all people that will be affected readily informed.

Please take time to review the following actions we are about to take.
• Public Routes and schedules will not operate on Fridays
until further notice.
• The service day hours of transit will be 6:30 a.m. until
7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday
• Trips are subject to availability
• Transit will limit the number of passengers on each trip.
(this will allow for recommended social distancing and
allow staff to sanitize each vehicle in between trips)
• Trips will be provided on priority basis (see below)

All passengers will undergo a screening process similar to the hospital. Trips will be approved or denied through this process.
Trip allowances will be prioritized in the following order:
1. Life sustaining Non-Emergency Medical Trips (dialysis,
cancer treatment, etc.)
2. Other Non-Emergency Medical Trips
3. Grocery/commodity trips
4. Other human services trips (bills, mail, etc.)
5. Other trips will be denied.

Transit has never experienced an event of this magnitude; we will continue to assess transit’s role, as this event progresses. We ask our riders and all the community to be considerate of other riders who do not have other transportation available.
If you have an alternate option for transportation, please utilize it first, so that we may readily provide trips for others without alternate transportation. Also, if you do not need to be out in public settings, please try to stay home to ensure safety of you and others.
As a program of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, we are committed to helping those in need while still reducing the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Thank you,
Kevin Tafoya
Transit Manager

03/19/2020

Attention 3/19/2020:

For the foreseeable future EBCI Transit will be asking a few screening questions when passengers are scheduling trips. The questions our passengers will be asked are:

• Do you have cough or shortness of breath?

• Do you have a fever?

• Have you traveled outside the continental United States or been in contact with anyone known to have coronavirus within 14 days of the start of your illness? (This question may or may not be asked dependent upon the answers to the first two questions.)

These questions are not designed to be a hardship for the passenger, but to protect the safety of fellow passengers and Transit Staff.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding through these uncertain times.
