I began working with Jocelyn a little over a month ago. In that time, we have built a nice rapport and she is easy to talk to. She listens to what I have to say, follows up on my concerns and I can tell she is very present for me, not only during our sessions, but during the week when she checks in on me. Loneliness is on the rise now more than ever-- however, there's a huge reason we don't talk about it (even though MANY of us are experiencing it).

Shame.
Stigma.
Fear.

Thinking "it's only me" or "why don't I have people" or "I have people in my life ... I shouldn't be lonely".

Loneliness is just like anxiety, fear, sadness, and anger...it's an emotion. It's inevitable, and something that we can't get "rid" of. The more we try to get rid of loneliness, the more it builds up. Like any emotion, to create a healthy relationship with it, it must be acknowledged and faced. The thing is, many of us don't know how to face loneliness, cope, or create authentic connection because of the shame or negative thoughts/misconceptions around loneliness.

I work with people who are feeling lonely and use my clinical training and research in the subject to facilitate insight and healthy healing - to create meaningful connections and have less shame around the emotional experience of loneliness.
