Our cutoffs are ultimately repurposed in our custom parquet designs, to ensure that we maintain a zero-waste environment. Parquet was also the very first product line that RQ Floors ever launched. Special project where we get to recreate this beautiful border. And old floors always tells us a story. But just because it’s old, doesn’t mean it’s broken. Just because we’re in this weird world right now, doesn’t mean it’s permanent. A fresh approach and extra attention to detail can help make the future a little brighter. Keep in mind that the replica is made from all the same woods (white oak + walnut), but it is unfinished while assembled. So some of that character “yellow” will be visible once a fresh coat of urethane is applied. The rest of the character will build over time 😌

This week, we celebrate 25 years in America. My parents and I landed at JFK on February 24th, 1995. This photo was taken in 1996 when my mom’s parents and brother arrived at JFK one year later.

Also this year, RQ celebrates its 10th🌟birthday.

What better way to honor these milestones than to thank our support system - people. Be it RQ’s employees, business partners, our wood flooring cheerleaders, family that understands the long nights and the weekends spent at work, friends that have become family and never get bored of learning about wood. Thank you to everyone that’s been around for the sweet moments, as well as the bitter ones.

When we left Ukraine, my dad traded his daily garb of a suit and tie to the office, to blue jeans and a tool belt. He wore it to any job site that would take working hands. I went straight into kindergarten, so my mom traded her routine of raising a toddler and head of household, for a long commute to JFK airport, where she worked security. We were starting over in a new country with a new language. It took courage, perseverance. It took swallowing pride and working really hard. We were starting over and we were going to take on the challenges, regardless of how hard the hardest days would be.

But don’t worry - my mom is still head of household and the secret sauce behind the RQ family. And my dad is our rock. And I get to go to work with my best friends every day. Who could be more lucky?

A dream is defined by those that have it, a vision that is so strong, you wake up every day and chase it. I wonder if you ever really “catch it”, is that a thing? Because if you’re a dreamer, then you never really stop dreaming. Your dreams just keep evolving. So thank you all for supporting while we continue to chase the American Dream. We would never come close to catching it without you.

So, America - happy 25 years together. It’s been quite a ride, and this crew is here to stay.
