I love @ryanspurvis hiker thoughts and how they’re so relatable. I was influenced by his funny and lovely videos.

My Google photos just reminded me that about 3 years ago I painted the Riverside Outfitters bus. I’ve been itching to paint outside or another inside mural again. This was a year before the pandemic and it’s wild how much has changed/ how much I’ve changed since then. I’m a little nostalgic for that time but grateful for the challenges over the years strengthening my resilience. So here we are. Anyways, holler at me if you want a big painting on your wall or shed or bus!

It was absolute honor to paint this house portrait where and her family are going to make so many new memories as her boys grow up! 💓
For any artists reading this, I cannot stress enough how amazing gouache paint is. I’ve been able to create richer colors and darker shadows than I could get with watercolor.

This little cutie bungalow is on its way to a place near to my heart, Urbanna Va. It’s an adorable little town on the water. I highly suggest taking a day trip from Richmond to walk around and enjoy the slower pace.
This is my first house portrait with my new gouache paint set and I’m in love with these paints. Thanks to for the rec and so much helpful info! 💗

I painted this of a tree I looooved at . You would know the one if you met this beautiful soul. It sat atop the hill overseeing the grounds and welcomed many people to it’s shady spots. Sadly it’s been taken down, but from the looks of the stump it wasn’t very healthy and needed to come down.
I’m happy the memory of this beauty lives on in a painting that hangs at my aunt’s house.

*Commissions are back open!*
It’s been the year of house portraits! I couldn’t be more grateful for all the special presents I was privileged to be a part of from realtor closing gifts to Christmas presents. I love to help y’all wow someone with a most meaningful gift.

I just have to say I’m so very thankful for each and every one of you for trusting me with your special commissions! Your words of encouragement, likes, and following along on my journey are precious fuel for me. Sometimes I can’t believe that I actually get to do what I love. 💛

I’m so very grateful for all of the custom paintings friends, family, and strangers have entrusted me with! It feels like an act of service painting these for you all and thinking of the joy it’ll bring the people who receive these as gifts. I can’t say thank you enough for this opportunity.💓

I’m still making art inspired by moments in nature. It’s mostly been house portraits lately, but I wanted to share this work in progress. Happy Monday!
The behind the scenes of making a painting.

This special house was a fun one. I’m starting to enjoy the almost meditative nature of painting all the little details of bricks.

Here’s a little peek into my set up and the painting process. (Note that a mug of tea is crucial.)
This portrait of a childhood home is now with it’s owner. 🎉 🏡

Hi all!
If you’ve been thinking about getting a special someone a custom house or pet portrait for the holidays you’ll want to message me soooon. Slots are filling up through October and I’ve got fewer holiday portrait spots this year. DM or email me with questions.
Alright, back to your hot, humid, Summer content. 😅

Believe or not, this is the second blue stucco house I’ve painted for a realtor in Richmond! This one was delivered before I left for vacation so I haven’t been able to share it with you all. I lived in a stucco house briefly as a kid and I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for them. The texture is just so fascinating to me and fun to paint!

Painting houses for y’all really is a treat. I try to grow my abilities a bit more with each painting. I experiment with adding more darkness in the shadows or thicker lines around the windows or play with the colors in the grass. Each painting is a new adventure!

These words and this image came to me today. I sketched it up and just wanted to share it with you all. 💚

This was a commissioned pet portrait and I’m so pleased with how happy the receiver of the gift was! It’s so special to me to be a part of these meaningful gifts.

Who remembers who sang this?? I had to look it up!

“I went into the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”
- Thoreau
My favorite type of house is a cabin in the woods. This dreamy structure tucked among the trees was a commissioned Father’s Day gift. I’m grateful I got to be a part of such a special and sentimental gift.

This is a painting from last week that I can now share with you all. I just love that second floor balcony! Our homes are full of memories and love. And I’m grateful to be part of commemorating these special parts of your lives! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about commissions.

“The sea does not like to be restrained.”

Relatable. 💙

Most of us think of the beach as a place to relax. For me, the salt air, salt water, and really everything about being near the ocean makes me feel at peace and connected to the natural world. Did you know there’s something in the lovely ocean air that influences our mind and body?!
Negative ions are found in high concentrations near the ocean. They’ve shown to have mood-stabilizing effects and can influence serotonin levels. 🤯 Google it for yourself!
I can’t promise this painting will do that for ya, but if you want a reminder of those good vibes - this painting listed on my website. 💙

I get to hear a lot of touching stories when doing commissions. The stories are truly what I love most about creating house portraits for you all. This painting is a keepsake for a couple who moved on to their next chapter.
“Home is where love resides, memories are created, friends always belong, and laughter never ends.”

You all loved the “I wet my plants” print so much that I sold out quickly. 💓 So I printed a couple more. If you want to snag one dm me “I wet my plants” and we’ll have a little chuckle.
Shira got one and took this perfect photo of it placed among her plants. 💚

Last weekend I had the most fun spending the day painting with my friend since childhood, Wind Haven Farm (Jenny & Paul)! Y’all this is going to be the coolest building in all of Virginia! They recently finished building their stunning new barn and what they have in store for it is going to be a whole experience! We painted Van Gogh’s Starry Night in the bathroom. It’s hard to get a good photo of the 11 foot walls, but believe me, it feels like you’re in the painting.
Check out their page if you’re interested in adding the joy of the most beautiful local flowers to your home. They also have a flower share where you can pick up at Brambly Park and Good Foods Grocery among other places!!

These two happy houses have gone off to the relator who requested them. It’s fun to think about all of the memories created and the ones about to be created in these homes. 🏡 🥰

Poppies have been moving up on my favorite flowers list. The red and splatters here give me so much joy!
3 sizes available on the website. Link in bio.

A belated Mother’s Day post for the most special woman in my life! Without my mom I would not have felt confident enough to go to art school, share my art, and definitely not sell my art. Because of her encouragement and love I get to know this creative side of myself. Thank you for all of your support Momma!😘 Wim Kilson

I had a couple of firsts in my Mother’s Day commissions. I painted my first house in England, Brooklyn, and Northern Va! All thanks to my friend Katie . 😊
What I really love about painting a house in a new area is the different architecture and colors that come with it. Each one is a new challenge that keeps me sharp and on my toes!

So thrilled to share that I have my first piece of art in a gallery (online) for the first time in a loooong time at Gallery5!! It’s a very near and dear painting so it’s extra special.

Gallery — Gallery5 This is a special oak tree in my back yard. She is over 200 years old and is one of the largest in the neighborhood. Throughout quarantine she’s given me a lot of joy from simply watching how she changes throughout the seasons, but stands steady through it all.
About
I was fortunate enough to grow up in an incredibly artistic home where every wall is a canvas that my mom painted a new mural on just about every season. My home and family nurtured exploration of creativity when I wasn’t outside exploring the forests, river, and marshes around my small hometown on the water. I graduated from VCUarts Painting & Printmaking department in 2009. After college, I paired my need for creativity with my love of nature while working in a wilderness therapy program helping at-risk youth find creative solutions with art and nature to discover their own self empowerment.
After returning to Richmond I have longed to connect Richmonders with the beauty of our parks. Art is my chosen vehicle for this connection because of the intentional stillness, contemplation, and observation that it requires. I’m honored and lucky enough to share this through my Artist Residency with the James River Park.
I have found that painting can be a fun, leisurely activity for those of all levels!! I host Paint Parties to help you unwind, have fun, and achieve Picasso status for the night.
