Today was the day! A HUGE thank you goes out to Dr. Talaat & Surgical Assistant Pat from Lazar Veterinary Surgery for coming all the way down to the Fredericksburg SPCA Locke Community Medical Center to perform surgery today! Spice and Penelope are two dogs in our care who needed a complex orthopedic procedure called a TPLO surgery. We are extraordinarily thankful to Dr. Lazar and his team for their generosity to travel from NOVA and perform these surgeries at a discounted rate so that Spice and Penelope would be given their best chances at pain-free living. Two TPLOs would have otherwise meant 1/3 of our emergency medical budget for the entire year! Thanks to the generosity of our community through our recent fundraisers, we were able to schedule Spice & Penelope right away with Dr. Lazar's team. Penelope's procedure went smoothly and she is now recovering in her foster-to-adopt home. Spice, however, encountered a hiccup when her new radiographs showed significant changes near the joint. Dr. Talaat from Lazar Veterinary Surgery and Dr. McManus from the Fred SPCA Locke Community Medical Center consulted and agreed it was best to perform an amputation. Due to the changes in the joint and some questionable lumps, a biopsy will be performed. Spice is sadly also Heartworm + and will be receiving life-saving treatment when she is healed from her surgery. She is also recovering in her foster-to-adopt home, getting loved on and spoiled as a new recruit to the tri-pawed tribe! A very big day for two shelter dogs who without the generosity of our supporters would not have received the care they needed!
Tobias is our Pet of the Day today!

He wants to give a huge THANK YOU to all of his supporters for raising the funds needed to have surgery to heal his broken pelvis.

We would also like to thank Lazar Veterinary Surgery for coming out to our clinic to perform the surgery yesterday.

Tobias is still on Stray Hold through Prince George’s County Animal Control through May 23rd. After that, he will begin looking for his new forever home.

Mobile veterinary surgery We travel to area veterinary hospitals, performing advanced surgical procedures at their facilities.
