Reston's Public Art inventory is amazing-- this work is by Gonzalo Fonseca, he did all the public art at Lake Anne Plaza.

Gonzalo Fonseca (1922-1997), the Uruguayan-born artist, was inspired throughout his career by forms he encountered in his extensive travels and reading. Further spurred by his prodigious imagination, his artwork is evocative of many cultures and influences, yet it is uniquely enigmatic. Fonseca gathered experience from around the world with the intent of incorporating it into a new and highly personal mission for sculpture. He possessed a deep understanding of the global social history of art and understood sculpture as a communal way to engage civilization while weaving together past and future in his work.

Fonseca often worked with found stone; considered nature, time, and chance his collaborators; and believed in the universal and transformative power of play. He carved stones without the aid of assistants.
