Time for back to school season! Dr. Alan Lee is an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where he regularly provides teaching, mentoring, and hands on coaching of critical endodontic techniques to dental school students and residents. He is personally committed to supporting the growth of the next generation of future Endodontists, and is passionate about continuous education so he can stay up to date on the latest advancements in the field of endodontics.
This is why when we say we provide the highest quality of care through the latest techniques, we mean it.

Dr. Lee has an adventurous soul. He always asks these questions to himself - "how do I make things better?" "There must be a better way. What's out there? What's new?"
Before Dr. Lee founded Endodontic Excellence in Reston, he has worked in 8 different places, sometimes as a full-time or part-time associate, and other times as a traveling endodontist and an in-house endodontist. He has worked in a high-end multi-endodontists office, an insurance-based multi-specialists office, DSO's and single-doctor or multi-doctors gp offices. He has also taught in 2 dental schools. Such a diverse work experience served as an opportunity for Dr. Lee to observe what works well and what does not in each office he has worked for. Dr. Lee's focus always has been how to build a team that can better serve his patients. Every member of Endodontic Excellence is like-minded, and Dr. Lee is extremely proud that now we think as a team and ask this question to ourselves everyday - "how can we do better?"

Dr. Steven Kim (your friendly neighborhood endodontist) recently joined the team at Endodontic Excellence! He is a board-certified endodontist who has been practicing for many years in the Manhattan area before moving to VA and has served as a faculty at Columbia University as well!
He is happily married to his wife Hana and loves playing with their 10 months old apricot maltipoo with the name of Pizza!
During his free time, Dr. Kim loves to explore various golf courses and to drive some easy 500 yards 😜

Hannah ( SENIOR 😜 endodontic assistant, Chief Happiness Officer) was the first employee to join Dr. Lee at Endodontic Excellence, and she has been able to watch the office come to life over the last several months. Hannah becomes friends with patients immediately and knows how to make sure patients feel safe and comfortable while she is chair side. Dentistry has been Hannah's passion since she was a child, and she is excited to be here to help you. A fun fact about Hannah is she has a 20 pound cat, and it is her entire personality. Shout out Jet the cat!!

Silvia (endodontic assistant, chief organization officer - she's a pro at organizing stuff) has worked in the medical field for 9 years and her passion is providing quality care and comfort to her patients. In her personal time, she keeps busy by competing in triathlons, cooking, and making her dog bandanas.

Tenzing (Office Manager, Ambiance Director) is currently pursuing her masters in Health Informatics Managment. She heads the front  desk with knowledge and compassion and she'll be here to answer your phone calls anytime! On the weekends she loves to be outdoors or binge tv shows while cuddling with her mini labradoodle.

This is a typical retreatment of a molar with an untreated MB2 canal. Numerous studies show that maxillary first molars have an extra canal, called MB2, pretty much 90-95% of the time. The MB2 canal is usually tiny and curvy, making it more challenging to find and treat it without proper 3d imaging, magnification and illumination. If it's left untreated or incompletely treated, it could lead to persistent or re-infection of the tooth.

Unusual bone loss along the M root made me suspicious of a root crack, but that wasn't the case. Tremendous healing was observed only 4 months after the

Two-in-one: This tooth had two less common anatomical features that made the treatment more complex - 1. A cervical enamel projection (Grade III) causing a furcation defect and swelling, and 2. a middle-mesial canal that exits laterally and required deep troughing of root dentin to find it.
Surgical removal of the cervical enamel projection was necessary to resolve the swelling.
