Readers Choose Their Favorite NJ Restaurants of 2026 The results of New Jersey Monthly's 43rd annual Readers’ Choice Restaurant Poll are in, showcasing readers' favorite places to eat in NJ.

We've all used the excuse before.

But if your hands are full of a rack of ribs, a brisket sandwich, and all your favorite BBQ sides... we'd say that's a pretty valid reason!

It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that a beloved member of the Local Smoke BBQ family, Paco Moore, passed away earlier this week as the result of a tragic incident in Keansburg.

Paco was a shining light to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Through his hard work, dedication, and kindness, he rose through the ranks to become a leader at our Red Bank location. More than a valued team member, Paco was a trusted friend, mentor, and cherished part of the Local Smoke BBQ family.

Paco is survived by his longtime partner, Julia, their two-year-old daughter, and a son who is due to be born in the coming weeks. Paco and Julia met through Local Smoke BBQ and built a loving family together. His loss leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who loved him most.

We ask that you keep Paco’s family, friends, and all of our employees in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

For those who have asked how they can support Paco’s family, a GoFundMe has been established to help provide Julia and their children with financial stability during this difficult time. The link to contribute can be found in our bio.

In addition, the owners of Local Smoke BBQ are in the process of creating a separate fund dedicated to Paco’s children and their future. More details on how to support that initiative will be shared as they become available.

We are deeply grateful for the love, compassion, and support our community has already shown to Paco’s family during this incredibly difficult time.
