Great tips to keep your heat running during this cold snap.
❄️ With the negative temps rolling in this weekend, here are two things to watch to keep your home heated and running safely: ❄️
1️⃣ Heat Pumps in Extreme Cold
Subzero temps make heat pumps work overtime. It’s normal to see:
• Longer run times
• Auxiliary heat kicking in
• Outdoor defrost cycles
• Steam coming from the outdoor unit
These are not signs of failure — just the unit doing its best to keep up in harsh conditions. If it’s struggling to maintain temp or something seems “off,” we’re happy to help.
2️⃣ Furnace Venting & Frost Buildup
If you have a high-efficiency furnace, check the PVC intake/exhaust pipes outside. Ice and frost can build up in extreme cold, or snow drifts can block the openings. This can cause:
• Furnace shutdowns
• Interrupted heat
• Fault codes or blinking indicator lights
If you see snow/frost blocking airflow like the picture below, gently clear it away. We DO NOT recommend our customers handling this on their own if it is unsafe. Leave it to us to take care of it for you. Avoid chipping at ice on the pipe itself.
Need Assistance?
If your system isn’t keeping up or you’re unsure what you’re seeing — give us a call. Staying warm and safe is priority during cold snaps like this one.

Happy New Year! Now is the time to buy your new home!
WAITING COULD COST YOU
The market is giving buyers a rare window of opportunity.
Today: lower rates, more homes, and sellers willing to negotiate.
If you wait and rates fall further, competition surges — and the deals disappear.
Buy while the market is still on your side.

You know you’re a nurse-turned-home inspector when this plumbing reminds you of the reproductive system 😂

By now, you may have already heard the news: Terry has officially “Retired” from home inspecting and have turned the torch over to his Daughter-in-Law, Kate Hipple, to continue on with the great service you have come to expect from Rushmore Inspections.
Kate offers competent and detailed Home Inspections with a fast turn around time for you and your clients. She is focused on safety, attention to detail and being available to answer any questions you or your Client may have before, during or after the Inspection. Did we mention that Kate is totally comfortable climbing up on rooftops and crawling around in crawlspaces! She diligently follows up with your clients, so they feel completely comfortable with what needs to be addressed, without alarming them. Kate is also willing to be more flexible for potential inspections on weekends or afternoons!
A little bit about Kate’s background: Kate is a lifelong resident of Rapid City. She and her husband, Jayme, have two beautiful little boys and share their home and hearts with a couple of fur babies. Kate attended SDSU and received her Bachelor of Science degree as an RN. After practicing nursing and traveling the country for 2 years, they decided to come back home to Rapid City. Kate got her home inspection license in 2023 and when not studying for the exam, she was shadowing me on inspections to get some real life hands on experience. They love South Dakota and the beautiful Black Hills. Enjoying the safe atmosphere to not only raise a family but taking advantage of the hiking, camping, boating and hunting opportunities that we all enjoy in our wonderful state.
We would like to thank you for the confidence and trust you have placed with me over the years and hope you will continue on with Kate and Rushmore Inspections for your clients in the coming years.

If you have upcoming inspections or would like to get something on the schedule, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Exciting news!
Kate will be going on maternity leave from July 1 through September 1. During this time, she'll be stepping away to focus on her growing family—but our inspection services will still be fully available!
Terry will continue to handle inspections during my leave, and we have full confidence that you and your clients will be in great hands. We’re committed to maintaining the same level of thoroughness, professionalism, and clear communication you’ve come to expect.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us. Thank you so much for your continued trust—we truly value working with you!
