My friends… I have more personal news. After five years (12 in this crazy business), hundreds of stories and more 1 a.m. alarm clocks than any human should ever have to set — I officially signed off from Spectrum News 1 for the last time. 🎙️

Five years ago, I drove away from the snowy tundra of Fargo, North Dakota and into a North Carolina newsroom with a whole lot of heart and a dream to tell stories that mattered. What I didn't know then was how much this place — and all of you — would end up mattering to me.

So much has changed in five years here… Life as I knew it turned upside down. I broke and rebuilt myself. I started over. I fell in love. I stepped into the most unexpected and beautiful role of my life as a stepmom to the most incredible little humans.

To every single person who has watched, shared, commented and supported me along the way from MN to ND to NC — thank you. You are the reason this work has meant everything to me. Knowing the stories we told together made even a small difference in someone's life is why I got into this business in the first place. And it's something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

When I moved here, I thought I had it all figured out. But somewhere in between the breaking news, the 1 a.m. alarm clocks every weekend, and the In Focus episodes I somehow produced, wrote, edited and hosted by myself — I figured out what really matters.

And what really matters is people. Community. Presence. Time.

This chapter is closing and a beautiful new one is beginning. I'm continuing to pour into the next generation of journalists as a professor at UNC Chapel Hill, I'm stepping into a Director of Media role with my fiancé's incredible company —and FINALLY — getting more than three hours of sleep.

The storytelling never stops. It just looks a little different from here.

To my Spectrum News 1 family — it’s all love. You are some of the best of what this industry has to offer and the best of what people have to offer. I’ll be cheering on the other side of the screen.

North Carolina, this is not goodbye. Not even close. I hope you stay with me for the journey.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. 🤍

Some personal news from this morning 🥰💍

A handful of my students from UNC Chapel Hill (and a welcome NC State student!) showed up to the studio this morning before 7:30 a.m. voluntarily! Clearly they’re going to be fine in this industry. 😂👏

I truly love getting to show the next generation the behind-the-scenes of what you see on TV. 🤍

Heading to the beach? Here's your guide to paid parking on the coast 04/01/2026

Please... Let me live vicariously through you and go to the beach for me!! 🌊☀😍 Just know, this gorgeous weather means paid parking season is now in full spring. ⬇️

Real talk...
I realized I didn't get to go to our NC beaches a SINGLE day in 2025. I'm a Cancerian 🦀 and a Minnesotan. Water is my thing! So my goal this year is to change that... Somehow. 😅

Heading to the beach? Here's your guide to paid parking on the coast The season for paid parking is coming back around for coastal towns. Here's a look at costs by location and times.

BREAKING: Senator Phil Berger is conceding the Republican primary for the District 26 race to Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page. The announcement just came down after multiple partial recounts failed to change the outcome of the tight race. Page leads the race by just 23 votes.

For context, Berger has been Pro Tem of the Senate since 2011 and is one of the most powerful Republicans in NC.

Severe storms likely for Monday 03/16/2026

“I really, really hope I’m wrong.” ⬅️ When I heard my meteorologist colleague say that to our team this morning, my heart sank.

My dear NC, I need you to take this one seriously. 🌩️

Monday is shaping up to be a significant severe weather day for our state, and our meteorologists are paying close attention. Here’s what you need to know:

⚠️ North Carolina is at a Level 4 out of 5 for severe weather potential.

🌪️ Tornadoes — including strong, long-lived ones — are possible, especially if supercell storms develop ahead of the main line.

💨 Wind gusts over 75 mph are possible.

🌨️ Hail up to 2 inches in diameter is possible.

Storms could arrive in waves starting late Sunday night into early Monday morning, with the main threat ramping up Monday afternoon and evening.

Please do these things before you go to bed tonight:

-Charge your phone
-Download the Spectrum News app, so you get real-time, location-focused weather alerts straight to your phone (make sure your notifications are on!)
-Know where you’ll shelter. Lowest floor of your building, away from windows. Basements are best.
-This is NOT a storm to sleep through. Make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings, day or night.

Spectrum News 1 North Carolina will have full coverage all day Monday. Stay close, stay safe and please check on your neighbors. 💙

Updates here ⬇️

Severe storms likely for Monday Concern for severe weather remains high on Monday.
