True story on how tonight’s events happened for a reason…
Tonight I went out to try & help some neighbors locate a cat in the home of a lady that passed away last week. She passed away with her dog & cat in the home with her & she was later found. 💔 I went there & looked everywhere. Flipping up sofas, spotlighting corners of the home, under the beds etc etc. Nothing. So I leave to drop some food off to the neighbors in Hope Mills who are feeding mama dog & helping to condition her to the same spot by the trap we left. Otw to Hope Mills I realized I forgot my bite gloves at the cat house so once I was done in Hope Mills I travel back to the cat house & look with another neighbor for the cat. The neighbors have been trying to find this cat for days & were worried they weren’t going to find her. Again, we search the house top to bottom. This time flipping mattresses & the sofas again. I go into the laundry room & the neighbor that contacted me is checking out the corners with me. We spot light behind the hot water heater & BAM there she is. 😍 This beautiful black & white long haired cat who’s probably confused & scared. She’s had random people in her home, the dog has been moved to a neighbors & her mama is gone. 😭 I grab her by her scruff & pull her out & place her into a crate. I get her into a bathroom & let her out & she just starts rubbing all over my legs. She is so sweet. I finally leave to head to pick up my youngest after this hot 🥵 adventure (her AC was broken) & the map takes me onto back roads to where my kiddo is at & that’s when I spotted the old, skinny dog.
I say all that to say had I not forgotten my bite gloves at the lady’s house then the cat wouldn’t have been found tonight & the dog wouldn’t have been picked up. I am exhausted as the mama dog situation has been an ongoing adventure on my time off but I am thankful to have been at the right place at the right time tonight on more than one occasion. 🥰
The kitty- named Tashi- is a sweet baby. She is needing to find a soft place to land after the tragic events in her life. She is not under Meraki but was our first cat trapping experience & we’d love to share her to find her a home. I do not have that many more details about her at the moment. 🐈⬛
Good night! 😴

🚨🆘 PUBLIC PLEA FOR HELP – MAMA DOG ON HOPE MILLS RD 🆘🚨
We need your help. Seriously.
For the third time, our team spent hours tonight trying to trap a terrified mama dog living near Hope Mills Road. Despite every effort, she would not enter the trap. She is exhausted, scared, confused, and desperately trying to survive after being separated from her babies.
A few days ago, we rescued her six 1 week-old puppies from underneath a shed where ants were attacking them and the extreme heat was becoming life-threatening. The puppies are now safe and being bottle-fed by an amazing foster, but their mama is still out there.
She is a black-and-white pit bull who is actively nursing and is most often seen near Hope Mills Road between Hope Mills and Raeford Road.
⚠️ If you see her:
• DO NOT chase her
• DO NOT call out to her
• DO NOT try to catch her
• PLEASE slow down while driving in the area
• Take a photo or video if possible
• Note the exact location and direction she is traveling
• Contact Meraki Animal Rescue immediately
Every sighting matters. Every minute matters.
This sweet girl is staying dangerously close to a busy roadway, and we are terrified that if we don’t get her safely trapped soon, she may become another tragic roadside statistic. She has already endured so much and deserves the chance to be reunited with her babies.
The good news is that we have a new plan.
Rather than continuing to push a trap she clearly doesn’t trust, we are going to slow down and work on earning that trust. With the help of a wonderful neighbor, we will continue feeding mama at a designated feeding station and allow her time to become comfortable with our trap setup. Our hope is that by removing the pressure and letting her acclimate, she’ll eventually feel safe enough to enter on her own.
In the meantime, her six puppies will continue receiving around-the-clock care at their foster home while we care for mama where she is. The ultimate goal is simple: get mama safely trapped, healthy, and reunited with her babies.
At the same time, Meraki has taken on seven additional lives overnight—one mama and six bottle babies. We didn’t plan for this, but when animals need help, we step up.
And let us tell you… SIX bottle babies is a LOT. 🍼🐾
Six puppies = lots of formula.
Six puppies = lots of feedings around the clock.
Six puppies = lots of laundry.
Six puppies = lots of p**p.
Six puppies = lots of cleanup.
Our incredible foster is caring for six tiny beating hearts that require constant attention, day and night. While we continue working to bring mama to safety, we’d love to help lighten the load for the person keeping her babies alive.
🐾 HOW YOU CAN HELP 🐾
We desperately need puppy formula, puppy food, p*e pads, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, paper towels, and food for mama. Our Amazon Wishlist can be found here:

🐾 Why We Require Spay & Neuter Before Adoption 🐾
The answer is simple: because preventing unwanted litters saves lives.
Every year, thousands of dogs and cats enter shelters across North Carolina. Sadly, our state continues to have one of the highest shelter euthanasia rates in the country. Many of these animals are healthy, loving pets who simply run out of time because there are not enough homes available.
When even one unaltered pet produces an unexpected litter, it adds more animals to an already overwhelmed system. Those puppies and kittens may eventually compete for the same limited homes as animals currently waiting in shelters and rescues.
As a rescue organization, we are committed to being part of the solution—not contributing to the problem. Requiring every adopted pet to be spayed or neutered before leaving our care helps prevent accidental litters, reduces pet overpopulation, and ensures that fewer animals end up homeless, abandoned, or at risk of euthanasia.
Spaying and neutering also provide important health and behavioral benefits, including reducing the risk of certain cancers and decreasing roaming, marking, and other unwanted behaviors.
We know that responsible pet ownership means making decisions that protect both your pet and the countless animals still waiting for a second chance.
Thank you for supporting our mission and helping us create a future where every animal has a safe, loving home. ❤️
