This beautiful kitchen was truly a labor of love, thoughtfully designed for a family of five, where functionality and connection go hand in hand.

Every decision was made to support daily life: allowing parents to stay engaged with their children, creating a space filled with natural light, and framing views of greenery around the breakfast area.

Beyond its clean and elegant aesthetic, this kitchen was carefully crafted to perform at a high level:

• Miele appliances throughout
• Quartz countertops with a full-height backsplash
• Workstation sink by The Galley ()
• Faucet with sparkling water function by Grohe
• Interior hardware and accessories by Häfele
• Custom cabinetry and built-in breakfast bench
• Custom lighting design with refined pendant fixtures
• Raised dishwasher for improved ergonomics
• Built-in coffee machine
• Adjacent pantry with a dedicated space for an iRobot
• Pop-up hood for a sleek convection cooktop
• Island designed with two heights to separate cooking and gathering — subtly screening the working area from the living and dining spaces

A space designed not just to be beautiful, but to support the rhythm of everyday life.

This reception area (one of two) was created for the new headquarters of Cruz Companies, one of the oldest and most respected Black-owned development firms in the country. This project was especially meaningful to me because, long before working on the space planning and interior design of these interiors, I had already been deeply involved with this building. Many years ago, while working for Michael Washington Architects, I helped develop the entire mixed-use project - from conceptual design to construction documents- for a building that includes 55 residential units above the office spaces.

To be invited to design the final interiors for a client I’ve known for more than 20 years felt like coming full circle.

Our goal was to create an entrance that reflects Cruz Companies’ legacy of community, progress, and dignity, while introducing natural textures, warm light, and a calm, uplifting atmosphere. To establish a welcoming first impression, we incorporated biophilic elements such as bamboo wood slats, touches of greenery, and a color palette aligned with their brand identity and Cape Verdean family roots.

Every detail was crafted to blend professionalism with a sense of belonging: a space that mirrors their mission of pioneering progress and empowering communities.

It was truly an honor to be part of this project.

Before this project was finished, it already felt alive.

The renderings carried so much emotion and intention that they became our guide, showing us the light, the movement, the softness this space needed to create a spa feeling.

At the heart of this design is a simple phrase written on the wall of the reception area:
Wellness begins with flow.

A reminder of the healing movement behind lymphatic therapy, now expressed through hand-crafted textures and lime paint that echo the therapist’s touch.

Tomorrow I’ll be on site capturing the real space, and seeing this concept become reality feels incredibly special.
