Opening night of Adirondack Thunder!
Special thanks to Suny-Empire State College, SUNY Adirondack, SUNY Schenectady County Community College, Hudson Valley Community College, SUNY Plattsburgh at Queensbury and Skidmore College for meeting with our Chamber’s Human Resources Council. Collectively, these colleges have the talent and resources to provide whatever training our members need to succeed, grow and thrive. The list of workforce training programs available now and their willingness to customize new programs is impressive. Please contact Denise Romeo or Liz Roggenbuck if you have any ideas or questions!

I'd like to give a shout out to SUNY Plattsburgh at Queensbury Victimology class taught by Professor Rachel Seeber. On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nations wide. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Today there was a state wide event to wear purple to support Domestic Violence. However, I think we should continue to wear purple for the rest of the month to continue spreading awareness. "Your major is not your destiny," explained Dr. Meg Pearson, new Dean of Arts & Sciences, during her visit with students yesterday afternoon. A major in psychology for instance, doesn't make you an automatic psychologist, rather it opens different doors, the "service options are massive." As an English major, Dr. Pearson has had a multi-faceted career, spending time at the Museum of Modern Art, working in marketing, and now serving as Dean of of the largest division of SUNY Plattsburgh, home to more than 250 faculty and 23 academic departments! Her message to students was uplifting, encouraging students not to be fearful of exploring career options that stem from a strong foundation in psychology and criminal justice.

Hudson Falls native Rya-Marie Stofa has her sights set on a counseling career. “By completing my bachelors on a campus I’m already familiar with, I will focus on the field of psychology to move forward with my master’s degree after graduation.” Choosing to study at SUNY Plattsburgh at Queensbury because it’s “close to home, easy to afford, and I can work while working towards my degree,” Rya-Marie is “looking forward to the different conferences and internships available” when she begins her studies with us this Fall. When asked whom she’d like to thank for helping her along her academic journey, she credits both her and her boyfriend’s family and closest friends for their support. “Everyone around me has truly helped out to help me get to my goals in life. Admission advisor, Mackenzie Dumas was so helpful and answered any question I had, no matter how small or silly.”
