When the world needed them, millions of our brave men and women of the United States answered the call.
As soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy. As women who rose to the challenges behind combat lines. They made what seemed like an impossible feat possible.
Our eternal gratitude is theirs.

Miss Martha is going to Washington! After much anticipation the Martha Hughes Cannon statue is headed to Statuary Hall to represent Utah in our nations Capital.
Come celebrate this remarkable woman at an outdoor festival today, June 5, at the Utah State Capitol, 5:00-8:00 pm. Bring your family for live music, activities, food, and some good old fashioned inspiration as we join in the official send off!
Martha Hughes Cannon represents the spirit of Utah women, then and now: firm, committed, compassionate, visionary, and productive. She was the first woman elected as a state Senator, was a practicing physician, a mother, an advocate, and a fierce suffragist. She fought for public health and women’s rights. Always Mattie to those who knew her best, she becomes one of only a few women represented in the U.S. Capitol.
In my last legislative session in 2018 I worked with Sen. Todd Weiler and then Sen. Deidre Henderson to pass the bill initiated by former Rep. Adam Gardiner that set this whole thing into action. Our not-so-secret magic was the involvement of the amazing Girl Scout Troop 914, and especially 4th grader Maya Mercer, a group whose effectiveness would make Sen. Cannon herself so proud. I’ve been a fan girl ever since.
I’m grateful for the Utah sculptor, Ben Hammond, who so beautifully captured the essence of this exemplary Utahn. And to so many Utahns, including the extremely talented team at BetterDays 2020, thank you for bringing her story to life.
I can’t wait for the world to meet her!

Any day at UVU is a good day! I was honored to sit on the conversational panel for UVU’s Center for Constitutional Studies Book Club. We discussed “The Myth of Left and Right: How the Political Spectrum Misleads and Harms America,” by Hyrum Lewis and Verlan Lewis. A very thought provoking read. Dr. Hyrum Lewis was even on the panel!
We discussed how political principles guide our relationship to debating policies, civic engagement, political parties, and voting if the “left-right” political spectrum is misleading and even harmful, as the authors suggest, and why understanding our constitution is critical.
Links in bio to watch the conversation, with great insights from the audience, and to learn about the May 16 book club, which is open to the public.

As we celebrated this most recent Thanksgiving, John and I were thrilled to be joined by the newest member of the Edwards family: Addiemay Price Jensen!
Since our race ended in September, and especially since Addiemay’s birth, I have put a great deal of thought into how to use my platform to ensure a brighter future for my grandkids–and for every Utahn.
Unfortunately, since our election, things have gotten even more toxic in our politics. For nearly a month, the U.S. House did not have a Speaker due to political obstructionism. The federal government keeps narrowly avoiding catastrophic government shutdowns. Even here in Utah, we are not immune. Far too many of our elected officials–on both sides of the aisle–seek to win social media battles, rather than trying to enact meaningful legislation.
To address these formidable challenges I am proud to announce the launch of the Governing Group PAC. Through the Governing Group PAC, we will work to use the power of Team Becky to elect local and state officials throughout Utah who are focused on governing and finding solutions to our greatest challenges–not just those who yell the loudest.
Any big effort requires an investment of time and money. We have an ambitious goal of raising $50,000 for the 2024 election cycle. This money will go directly to providing funding and infrastructure to candidates who focus on what really matters: delivering principled results, rather than partisan soundbites. We’re also using the power and expertise of members (yes, YOU!) across the state to support those $ with the ground game necessary to secure wins. And along the way we’ll be there to mentor and coach with everything from campaign basics to how to build coalitions, trust, and a pathway forward through the complexities of politics. More information is to come so please follow on socials . I’d greatly appreciate a donation–whether financial or with your time–as we go through the next year!
I am looking forward to using my role as a supporter, volunteer, and mentor to help elevate candidates and causes that matter to me. For Addiemay, and all those you care about. I hope you’ll join me on this new journey!

I was honored to receive the Martha Hughes Cannon Lifetime Achievement Award from Utah Women Run and UofU’s Hinckley Institute yesterday, along with Senator Luz Escamilla, Outstanding Impact in the Democrat Party, and Mayor Dawn Ramsey, Outstanding Impact in State and Local Government. Also recognized were Allyson Bell, Outstanding Impact in the Republican Party, and Nubia Pena, Exceptional Work in Policy and Advocacy (not able to attend in person).
Today marks the anniversary of the day Martha Hughes Cannon took office/was elected as the first state senator in the country. A doctor, mother, public health advocate, champion of women, and suffragist, Martha’s legacy in our state runs deep so it is an honor to receive this recognition in her name.
I’m grateful for the many people in my life who have helped empower my voice, from my parents and sisters who created an environment where expectations included making a positive impact on the world around you, to my husband, children, and now grandchildren who support and inspire in innumerable ways.
So many women in my life have
* befriended, mentored, and collaborated with me as advocates in our communities
* helped create welcoming and meaningful spaces in our schools, churches, and neighborhoods
* worked alongside me as trusted and beloved legislative colleagues and partners
* aligned as team members and created a movement of people working for a political landscape that recognizes, celebrates, and elevates the important voices of women across our state
I am committed to keeping our collective good work moving ahead with each of us using the resources, skills, talents, vision, and commitment we have been blessed with.
Let’s go, !
Martha Hughes Cannon was a trailblazer. She was a doctor, mother, suffragist, and in 1896 she became the first woman elected to a state senate anywhere in the country!
Martha’s story represents the many remarkable Utah women, past and present, who blaze trails. This Utah Education Network video tells the incredible story of an amazing group of 9 and 10 year old Girl Scouts who worked alongside me as the bill sponsor to make history as we paved the way for a statue of Utahs own Martha Hughes Cannon to be placed in Statuary Hall of the U.S. Capitol.
When the bill passed, these young girls cheered and yelled “We did it!” and with Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson, BetterDays2020, and many other Utahns, WE DID!
