wo years ago, Carl Lauro Elementary School was forced to close its doors. Now, the building is being considered for a 35-year lease to Excel Academy, a big-box charter school. This proposal is about more than a building: it will accelerate the defunding of our Providence Public Schools, stripping away resources and services from our students who remain in PPSD.Providence School Board Member Corey Jones and I are urging our neighbors to speak up! Contact your City Council Member and tell them to vote NO on this lease. Join us this Thursday (6pm) at City Hall because our public schools are worth fighting for!

🎤 Here’s what youth leaders from the Our Schools PVD Alliance have to say about the fight for Ethnic Studies in Rhode Island! This Spring, Rep. David Morales partnered with the OurSchoolsPVD Alliance to introduce House Bill #5836, which would require all high schools in RI to offer a yearlong Ethnic Studies course and establish a student-led council to support curriculum development and implementation.

Let’s make sure communities of color are part of our curriculum, classrooms, and decision-making in our schools 📚✏️✊

Last month, ahead of the Governor’s “State of the State” speech — community organizations and advocates came together to rally and demand urgent action on critical issues affecting Rhode Islanders, such as housing, homelessness, utility costs and education. Driven by lived experience, these advocates are leading the effort for the changes our communities deserve. So if you want to get further involved in advocacy efforts like these, we recommend connecting with: @BLMRIPAC@GeorgeWileyCenter@[email protected] # David Morales ActNow

As the housing crisis worsens, more of our neighbors are becoming unhoused while the state struggles to provide enough shelter. A year ago, a promising idea was proposed: ECHO Village, a community of 45 one-room Pallet Shelters with on-site wraparound services. However, due to bureaucratic issues and a lack of urgency from the Governor’s Office, ECHO Village remains unopened. Today, we take a closer look at ECHO Village and the legislative efforts to get these shelters permitted.

So as you finish watching the video, please consider sending an email to share your support for the SAVE Units Act (House Bill #5100) to the Municipal Government & Housing Committee which can be reached at: [email protected]
