Getting out of the house for a change in scenery is important for mental health, especially in stressful moments around the holidays. Plus it's a great way to spend quality time with loved ones (and pups!)

⭐️ Take a walk around the neighborhood, in a nearby park, or just in the backyard.

⭐️Play a game of “I Spy” or challenge yourselves to notice different things around you—count trees or point out all the yellow things you see.

⭐️Plan ahead: pick a day with nice weather and a time of day your loved one will be up for it. Bring a jacket and sunglasses just in case, and bring masks!

It can be difficult to make holiday events fun and comfortable when you're worried about a loved one living with dementia ~ how they're doing, how or if they're included in holiday festivities, etc. The kitchen is a great place to keep loved ones engaged and feeling useful and included! You can offer simple, safe tasks like:

⭐️setting the table

⭐️folding napkins

⭐️measuring ingredients

⭐️mixing pre-measured ingredients

⭐️emptying the dishwasher

Continuing to include and encourage loved ones to participate in daily activities can have so many benefits ~ like maintaining skills and independence, boosting confidence, and providing sense of purpose. Plus, it's more fun when everyone is included!

Got dice? Nothing brings people together like a good game. Dice are a great way of bringing loved ones into the group conversation this holiday season. Pull out a few sets of dice at your next family gathering ~ the whole family can enjoy simple dice games, or just some new conversations inspired by dice. For example:

⭐️Talk about your favorite games that use dice - Remember the last time you played Monopoly, Yahtzee, Sorry!, or Backgammon? Do you prefer games that rely on strategy or the luck of the dice throw? What's your favorite board game?

⭐️Take turns stacking as many dice as you can - who can get the tallest dice tower?

⭐️There are so many simple dice-rolling games out there, like Knockout and Passage. Check a few of them out online.

⭐️Pull out a favorite game or a deck of cards and play together!
