Absolutely love when you’re taking pictures and the subject, the lighting and the camera all cooperate and am able to pull a photo off the camera with little to no post processing. I was taking close up shots of the flamingos beautiful plumage, right as he turned and started to preen. With the perfect background and natural lighting. I knew this would be a keeper right as the shutter clicked the image.

I spent my Superb Owl Day, looking for just that…owls. I got to check in on a mated pair that is close to home. I got to see them, still don’t know what tree they have chose as the nest site. On the way home I saw an immature eagle on a roadkill deer in the median, an then later I saw a mature eagle eyeing another piece of roadkill, luckily it was just a raccoon and I was able to safely move it off the road for this beautiful bird to have a safe meal. When I can safely move roadkill off roadways, I always do. It’s one little way we can help prevent car strikes to all birds of prey and other scavengers who may be led to the dangerous area in chance of an easy meal.

Got to spend some quality lowlight time with around a dozen short eared owls yesterday in the middle of nowhere Iowa. While I don’t get any SUPER flight shots I enjoyed just standing back and watching them interact with each other and the northern harriers that were also hunting. Nikon Z9, Nikkor 150-600mm

Got to spend some quality lowlight time with around a dozen short eared owls yesterday in the middle of nowhere Iowa. While I don’t get any SUPER flight shots I enjoyed just standing back and watching them interact with each other and the northern harriers that were also hunting. Also ended the night with a barred owl high up on a hillside getting ready to hunting for the evening. Nikon Z9, Nikkor 150-600mm

11/11/25 Aurora Borealis unleashed her splendor for HOURS of relentless beautiful colors to the “naked eye” in all directions and overhead until dawn the next day.

It’s almost that time of year again….this shot is from December 2024, in a beautiful quiet snowstorm that started while viewing this amazing bird that gave some excellent shots in what appeared to be a snow globe surrounding us. A very memorable moment, frozen in time. Great Gray Owl, Northern MN.
