Join me for episode 211 of in which I explore the question of “Who’s Your Neighbor” and how the words you use influence the way you answer that question, and why it matters to a broad range of issues chocolate and cocoa face today.

OVERVIEW: Episode 210 focuses on updates to fact-checking claims, asking, “Have there been any updates?”

Spoiler Alert: Why no, no there have not. We’ll also discuss why you should care about the silence.

One challenge I face regularly is responding to the same (untrue) claims over and over and over again. Facebook, Reddit, X, Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok … all of those sites are echo chambers that often amplify bad takes until they take on a life of their own.

The myths I cover in this episode fit into the class of topics governed by Brandolini’s Law:

The amount of energy needed to refute BS is an order of magnitude greater than that needed to produce it.

In this episode, I will do my best to refute the claims and give you tools you can use when you encounter them yourself.

OVERVIEW: Episode 207 of casts a skeptical eye at industry “plans” to address price volatility and cocoa supply chain disruptions. Did Monty Python have it right with “Run Away!?” about Big Chocolate and “the future”?

This episode of PodSaveChocolate will take its jumping-off point from two paragraphs in the June 3 issue email from Confectionery News titled "The Future of Chocolate," and text from the June 4th edition of Cocoa Radar.

Before we begin, I don’t think there is a “the” future for chocolate. There are possible futures, and many, if not most of them, are not so favorable when it comes to Specialty Chocolate and cocoa.

Because … without Specialty Cocoa, there is no Specialty Chocolate. (And vice-versa.)

OVERVIEW: Episode 205 of deconstructs and debunks the final instalment of Kilpatrick’s fearmongering series demonizing lab-crown cocoa and gene-edited cacao trees. Brandolini and Cervantes would be proud?

One point I made in the previous episode is that Kilpatrick has a large and engaged following on social media, with over one million followers on Instagram and nearly 500k followers on TikTok: He has an audience of followers who not only watch, but also engage through liking, sharing, and commenting.

https://youtube.com/live/VxDK2wzW-Mc

What Kilpatrick can “achieve” in a series of four, under two-minute shorts published on multiple platforms takes exponentially more effort to combat effectively on a much smaller platform like TheChocolateLife, which fact is eloquently stated in Brandolini’s Law:

The amount of energy needed to refute misinformation is significantly greater than the effort required to create and spread it.

While this effort may be me tilting at windmills (again h/t M. Ceravantes), it’s a campaign I am happy to lead. Is anyone else pushing back? Bueller? Bueller?
