Cane Loyalty

Designed for Veterans and Elderly; the cane can be a tool for strength, balance and self defense Cane-Fu is part of the American Cane System founded by Grand Master Mark Shuey, Sr..

Created to give an advantage to those who carry a cane, either due to age or disability, Cane-Fu teaches the use of the cane both for self-defense, and self improvement. Incorporating stretching, strength training and balance training; carrying a cane is no longer a symbol of weakness; its is a source of confidence and strength.

I often hear or from students that they just do not have time to train. My response is if you have time to breath you have time to train. Training does not only have to be at the gym or DoJo. Training needs to be part of your everyday life. Practice your situational awareness, watch people, study their gate, are they right-handed or left- handed. Are they wearing glasses, carrying a concealed firearm? What kind of foot gear are they wearing? Do they favor one side of their body more than the other? Do they look nervous? This way if trouble ever comes your way you will have already sized up your attacker. Remember you do not always have to hit hard; you need to hit where it hurts! Use social distancing to your advantage knowing with your cane you have approximately a 5-foot reach. Maintain a mental image of those distances and try not to let people close the gap on you. No matter where you are or where you go ALWAYS have an escape route. Stay safe my friends.

To all my Cane Practitioner friends: I have always taught that you must become one with your cane and I believe it, little did I realize that my cane became one with me and in its own little way humbles me. Like everyone I try to train much as possible there are times when I get a little cocky and move too fast saying to myself “I got this.” That is when my cane brings me back to reality by smacking me right upside the gourd! Hard enough to make me see stars and realize that my cane is saying slow down! Smooth is fast! Other times it is a slight tap on the elbow or other body parts. It is good to be brought back to reality realizing that this 76-year-old body will never be what it was at 18. To all my Cane friends Have a safe Thanksgiving and a wonderful Christmas.

Don’t wish me a Happy Memorial Day, this Day is for those that didn’t make it back for Veteran’s Day!
Here's some ground rules for Memorial Day weekend:
1. Don't wish a veteran or military personnel a Happy Memorial day. There is nothing happy about brave men and women dying.
2. It's not a holiday. It's a remembrance.
3. If you want to know the true meaning, visit Arlington or your local VA, not freaking Disneyland.
4. Don't tell a veteran or military personnel how great any one political power is. Tell them about Chesty Puller, George Patton, John Basilone, Dakota Meyer, Kyle Carpenter, Mitchell Paige, Ira Hayes, Chris Kyle and any other heroes too numerous to name. Attend a Bell Ceremony and shed some tears.
5. Don't tell a veteran or military personnel they don't know what they are talking about. They have carried the burden all too many times for those warriors who now stand their post for God.
6. Say a prayer... and then another.
7. Remember the Fallen for all the Good they did while they were here.
8. Reach out and let a Vet know, we're losing too many in "peace".
I humbly thank every veteran who has given their life for my freedom. May God bless you and your families. I am grateful you are all standing post in Heaven. 🇱🇷

Derby Style hand grip cane.
Everyone that knows me knows I am intrenched in Grand Master Shuey’s Cane Master programs and have many of his fine Cane Master canes. Our student base is made up mostly with Veterans having various degrees of disabilities, plus we have what is known as our Hero Reach Cane program for our chair bound Veterans. Due to the various degrees of disabilities we have had to widen our graduated response options and investigate some other canes. A good friend Gary Hernandez put me onto a company called Wood Works by DNR. They make real robust canes with a Derby style grip. Their email is [email protected]. I just received their canes today and will be testing and evaluating them for our needs, please follow us for future reports on them. Feel free to email us any time. [email protected]

Best thing you can do for your health is to put down that remote, put your phone away shut the news off and grab your cane. Learning the cane, will improve your flexibility, increase your strength, and improve your balance! Plus, your cane learn how it can be used to protect yourself! Remember age is nothing but mind over matter! If you do not mind age doesn’t matter!
