Operating as usual

Congratulations to our very own Randy Wills for getting Firefighter of the Year!

Over the weekend the department hosted its annual awards banquet. While years of service and other achievements are recognized and acknowledged, the Firefighter of the Year, Medic of the Year, Officer of the Year, and Fire Chiefs Award are also awarded. This week we will cover each person with their own post and what was said about them.

This years 2021 Firefighter of the Year is presented to Firefighter Randy Wills. Here is what Firefighter Wills’ Officers said about him!

‘Randy has been with the department for 5+ years and has continued to demonstrate what it is to be a Hopewell Fire Fighter.  Randy is someone who goes above and beyond the normal work load of an employee while maintaining a positive attitude.  He has taken countless hours to teach new employees the job from day one, all the way through helping others get cleared to operate the Quint.  He also stepped up into an acting roll when we were short on acting captains. He put in 80 plus hours to work on the kitchen and other odds and ends around the station to show he has pride in our department.  He also gave time to bring in his volunteer engine at the last minute when we were down pumpers for the DPO class hosted here at Station 1. In addition, he worked 500 plus hours of OT this year to assist with the shortage of personnel on each shift.  He has overcome challenges and continues to be an asset not only to his shift, but the entire department.’

Adam Rand, Firefighter Squad 288. Adam gave his life on 9/11/2001. One of the flag poles at Macon Fire Dept. is dedicated in honor of Adam.

Today, Mason Morrison participated in the 9/11 Stair Climb in Richmond, VA. He climbed for Adam Rand. After he went 7 trips up and down the bleachers at City Stadium, to equal the 110 stories the firefighters climbed on 9/11/2001, with Adam’s photo clipped to his shirt, he rang the bell 3 times and read Adam’s name and station information. One of the flag poles at Macon Fire Dept. was dedicated to Adam and his sacrifice on 9/11/2001. Not only was this special because of the flag pole dedication, but if you look at the cover photo on our page, Mason’s great grandpa, grandpa, and great uncle are all in that photo. ❤️

Thank you Sutphen for a beautiful new apparatus for our station!

📍 We're here for your community's exact needs 📍

Rather than spec twin pumpers, Powhatan County Fire and Rescue understood the specific needs that faced two of their districts and worked with Sutphen to tailor their two apparatus. Built side-by-side, Powhatan Company 5, Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and Powhatan Company 3, Macon VFD, are ready to go to work for the county of Powhatan.

Thank you, Powhatan County Fire and Rescue for your support and trust in Sutphen!

🚨 County Wide Burn Ban has been lifted! Normal outdoor burning complying with all state regulations may resume.

9/11 Stair Climb today. This year I will be walking for Kevin Prior. Macon Fire Dept. has dedicated a flag pole to Adam Rand and also Kevin Prior so this year it’s extra special to climb today. ❤️🇺🇸 04/10/2019

Powhatan Fire volunteers worry money issues could compromise community safety The Powhatan County administrator has proposed to eliminate rent assistance and uniform funds from three of the county's five fire stations.

In the event of a power outage, if you need assistance, your local fire station should be open and available to you.

Please remember to check on your neighbors!

Stay off the roads unless you have an emergency and need to be out.

Please be aware of our men & women who are spending their days & nights away from their families to help get those roads clear as quickly as possible so we can all be back out & about on safe, clear roads!

Our fire, police & EMS family have to be available 24/7 so let's make sure we help them by staying off the roads until they are all clear!

Let's make sure everyone rides out our first snow storm of the year as safely as possible!
