My once in a while "Why Use PicnicPal" from a science perspective. As I read a lot of articles I note: the "mrc-1" gene discussed in this article is what concerns the World Health Organization and CDC the most. When this gene attaches to bacteria it has been found to make said bacteria antibiotic resistant. This study notes finding bacteria in flies with this gene. Additionally, the comment about identifying patents in hospitals far from farms with bacteria carrying this gene increases during the summer is a direct implication to flies as the vector. If it were in the food system there wouldn't be a bump in the summer season. Findings show a summer bump mixed with volumes of studies showing flies vector (spread) bacteria. I'm not at all surprised of the findings based upon my readings on this topic.
