Multnomah County Library's 19 neighborhood locations serve the city of Portland, OR, and beyond.
Multnomah County Library is the oldest public library west of the Mississippi, with a history that reaches back to 1864. Today, Central Library and 18 other libraries make up a system that offers more than two million books and other library materials. As Oregon's largest public library, Multnomah County Library serves nearly one-fifth of the state's population with a wide variety of programs and services.

As AANHPI Heritage Month comes to a close, we’re putting a spotlight on East County Library. Did you know this brand-new palace for the people has a large collection of items in many languages, including Chinese and Vietnamese? There’s over 4,500 items in Chinese and over 5,500 items in Vietnamese. Come on in and check out some great books for all ages to celebrate our remarkable AANHPI community!

Get ready St. Johns... your beloved local library is reopening June 27! 🥳🎉 The renovated and expanded library is modern, while preserving its exquisite, historical charm.
Based on community input, new features will include:
🌟 A large play and learning space for children and families.
🌟 Flexible meeting spaces for community use.
🌟 Updated technology and internet.
🌟 New art that represents the community.
🌟 Gifts to The Library Foundation supported the creation of an interactive early learning space featuring artwork by Carson Ellis, a teen room for students to gather and study, and mobile creative learning lab at St. Johns Library.
The temporary holds location that was opened on 8191 N. Lombard Street is closing to the public on June 11, 2026 in order to move books, furniture and other materials out of the space and help staff prepare the updated St. Johns Library for patrons. The last day the temporary holds location will be open to the public will be June 10.
The community is invited to use alternate locations while the St. Johns hold pickup is closed and before St. Johns Library reopens:

The wait is over. Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us this weekend! The brand new East County Library is finally here 🎉 95,000 square feet of books & so much more for you to learn and connect. This new library is home to nearly 200,000 books and will cater to the approximately 40% of Multnomah County residents who reside east of I-205. It's complete with an auditorium for public events, an outdoor area for library programming, underground parking, a Reading Room, makerspace, conference rooms, and so much more.
Your new library is a day trip, a learning resource, and a place of civic pride. Thank you again to the Multnomah County voters who supported the Library Capital Bond in 2020 and every member of the community who provided us with valuable feedback each step of the way.
Come on by and make this new space your own! It's here! Find East County Library at 475 NW Division St., right next to the Gresham City Hall MAX station and many bus lines.
