“Enjoying your work. Having fun at work doesn’t mean you’re not being serious.” - Michael Cundall, PhD. Mirth Management

That line from Dr. Mike stayed with us long after last year’s conversation on humor at work.

Too often, workplaces treat joy, creativity, humor, and play as distractions from meaningful work instead of recognizing that they can help people connect, think differently, recover from stress, and stay engaged.

That’s part of why we're exploring Art and Play for Human Flourishing this quarter. Next week, we’ll continue the conversation as we explore how to turn fun into an actionable and effortless habit.

Sometimes the things that make us more human at work are also the things that help us thrive.

Work teams benefit from moments of play as research shows that moments of shared fun can strengthen bonds and increase compassion. So how can we build more fun into our days?

At our BeWell event on May 21, Mike Rucker, Ph.D. will guide us on how to turn fun into an actionable and effortless habit. Whether you’re a leader, practitioner or someone seeking personal renewal, this session will leave you energized and connected.

What does wellbeing in action look like at work?

That’s the question we’re exploring in a new Wellbeing Think Tank conversation series, where we connect with practitioners, researchers, and leaders who are helping shape healthier, more human centered workplaces.

In this clip, Peichi Waite Founding Director of Scarlet ArtsRx at Rutgers University—New Brunswick, shares a simple creativity practice: go on a color walk.

🟡Choose one color.
🌻Look for it as you move through your day.
🍋 Notice where else it shows up.

It sounds small, but small shifts in attention can interrupt our usual thinking patterns, invite more presence, and open tiny doors to joy.

This quarter, we’re exploring creativity and joy for human flourishing. A color walk is one simple way to practice both.

Could you go on a color walk today? Pick a color and let us know what you notice!

Fun at work does not have to mean forced games, distractions, or one more thing added to the calendar.

Sometimes it starts with a better question: What parts of your work give you energy, and how can we make more room for them?

Research on job crafting reminds us that people can shape parts of their work to better align with their strengths, interests, and sources of meaning. Even small shifts, like adding creativity, connection, humor, or autonomy into the workday, can support focus, motivation, and wellbeing.

On May 21, join us for How to Build a Fun Habit with Mike Rucker, Ph.D., author of The Fun Habit. We’ll explore how brief, intentional moments of fun can support joy, health and overall wellbeing.

Join the Wellbeing Think Tank community today and join us in creating cultures of wellbeing for all.

We love hearing from our community. 🫶

And this recent comment, “Very engaging event. Rooted in evidence yet applicable to work and life.”, exemplifies our work.

Creating experiences that are grounded in science and still practical for everyday work and life is exactly what we aim for. 🙌

Grateful for this testimonial and for a community that continues to show up, learn, and grow together. If you're passionate about creating cultures of wellbeing we hope you'll join us!
