I’m grateful to everyone who set aside time on a Sunday afternoon to attend the District 3 budget town hall. Many thanks to the community members who shared heartfelt testimony on what their budget priorities are. Thanks also to my District 3 council colleagues for sharing the stage, Mt. Scott Community Center for hosting, and for planning this meaningful event.

Thank you to the many neighbors who helped pickup trash at Laurelwood Park and along SE Foster this last Saturday. It was a great example of community members taking ownership and action to improve their neighborhood, public spaces, and business district.
We heard 216 pounds of trash was collected! Thanks again to the neighborhood organizers (), volunteers, and for all they do to make this corner of District 3 shine.

I’m grateful for everyone who showed up to last night’s budget engagement event to share what’s important to them in advance of the Mayor’s proposed budget being released (April 20th). Thanks also to the Mayor, my fellow D3 Councilors, and City staff for making this event happen. We have some difficult decisions ahead of us.
District 3 residents will have more opportunities to engage directly with me and my D3 colleagues and share their priorities once the proposed budget is released. Join us for a D3 budget town hall on Sunday, April 26, from 2:00 - 3:30pm, at Mt. Scott Community Center in collaboration with . Follow link in bio to learn more and to sign up for my newsletter.

I look forward to supporting the efforts of neighbors working hard to keep Laurelwood Park and SE Foster clean and welcoming.
Join me and my office alongside neighbors and on Saturday, April 11, from 10am-12pm. We’ll join other volunteers at Laurelwood Park (SE 64th & Foster) and pick up trash in the surrounding business district.
Many thanks to the community members who host this cleanup with monthly (every 2nd Saturday). Follow link in bio to learn more.

When crime occurs repeatedly at or near specific properties, the City can define them as chronic nuisance properties. My office is proposing updates to City code that will make it easier for PPB to address these chronic nuisances and crimes by getting owners to take responsibility and prevent their properties from being hubs for illegal activity. This would happen primarily through the implementation of abatement measures like better security, lights, and staff training.
On 82nd Ave this ordinance might strengthen enforcement of chronic nuisance properties like motels that cater to human s*x trafficking, but it can also apply to other properties that are hubs for crimes like drug dealing.
We took on this issue in part because of the prevalence of human trafficking around McDaniel High School, and the concerns shared with us from the school principal and members of the community. This legislation will help address these concerns and more where specific properties are negatively impacting the safety and livability of our community.

District 3 Council Offices were hosted by and on a tour today of critical water infrastructure and storm water & sewage maintenance sites.
From large scale treatment facilities to bioswales that capture storm water naturally along our neighborhood streets, much of the critical work of providing drinking water and protecting our rivers sometimes goes unnoticed. It’s a good reminder that much of the vital work of the City is often unseen. The staff in each of these bureaus are providing essential function for Portland.
