Made a finished piece of art for the first time in ages! Here’s the step-by-step of how I made it. This is the new design for Wisp’s wolf form. Only references used were of my own previous art.
Keep an eye out for updates on Wisp, the 3D Platformer my partner and I are developing at !

A couple doodles I’ve been working on recently during slow shifts. Trying to start making time for art again cuz it’s been so long.

My partner and I started developing my game Wisp together, so I designed a logo for our little game studio! I may add/tweak some things still but I’m very happy with it for now.

A sneak peek at some of the progress we’ve made on developing my game Wisp! It’s an exploration/puzzle-solving/action adventure 3D Platformer where you can unlock, play as, and seamlessly switch between six different animals with their own unique abilities in order to progress and explore new areas. Inspired by games such as The Legend of Zelda series, Okami, Spyro the Dragon, and more.

I was able to take the day off from work yesterday, so I finally started working on a proper turnaround for the main character of my game, so I can actually make their model and animations and eventually have something playable.
This will be an exploration/puzzle-solving/fighting action-adventure 3D Platformer similar to the Legend of Zelda series, Okami, and Spyro the Dragon, where players can unlock and play as six different animal forms with unique abilities — wolf, flying squirrel, horse, owl, hippo, and jaguar.

We got an extra long lunch break at clinicals today (60 mins instead of 30 🤯) so I made more progress on the wolf idle animation.

Been roughing out an idle animation for the wolf form during my breaks at clinicals — here’s what I have so far. My main reason for deciding to start making this is because I want to mock up how I want the “form switching menu” to look. I’m picturing something similar to the character-switching menu from Donkey Kong 64, where the forms you’ve unlocked will all be represented as silhouettes in the background until selected, and then they’ll be animated in full color — and they’ll rotate around like being on a circular platform as you cycle through them one-by-one. But you’ll be able to do this at any time through a menu screen for nice & quick gameplay, switching characters seamlessly during combat if you want or need to. I might have a full menu through the pause screen that you can get a nice detailed view of all the forms and their stats & abilities, and then have a separate little mini form-switching menu displayed in the UI where you can rapidly switch forms mid-gameplay with just a couple button presses without having to go through a menu. But these idle animations will be for the actual menu.

So I’m brainstorming names for my game & main character. I *think* I want the title to have the main character’s name in it, but that’s not set in stone. As you might’ve seen, one of the ideas I have is calling it “Wisp”, and having that be the main character’s name too. Another idea I like is “Whispers of Amity”, with the main character’s name being Amity.

The basic premise is that you’re a wandering spirit trapped in purgatory with no memory of your mortal life. You’re tasked with finding six other lost/troubled spirits scattered around the world, solving whatever regrets or feelings are preventing them from being at peace, and then physically guiding them to the Point of Crossing into the afterlife by capturing their Essences (essentially their spirit) in one of the Charms you carry with you. By capturing their Essence, you can then borrow their mortal forms and all the experience and memories that come with them. As you find these spirits, solve their troubles, unlock their forms and memories one by one, and travel with them closer and closer to the Point Of Crossing, you also gradually begin to remember details of what you believe is your own mortal life. However, there’s a powerful magical being following you, actively trying to *prevent* you from helping these souls cross over for some reason. 🧐

Since the main character starts out with no recollection of who or what they are, I want to give them a completely gender-neutral name that hints toward the overall sort of melancholy, bittersweet, emotional theme of the game, the character’s role in healing lost souls and guiding them to the afterlife, and the idea of not being able to let go, so instead helping *others* learn to let go. Also of being a fractured, flawed individual, with little recollection of who you are. Being someone who saves others because no one saved or can save you.

Some other names I’m considering (unique enough, strong, have a good ring to them, and would stick in players’ minds) are Harbor, Remedy, and Trace.

Let me know what you think of these name ideas, which are your favorites, and if you have any name suggestions that fit this overall theme!
