Don't Rank Rene
Inexperienced Commissioner Rene Gonzalez has been incredibly divisive and ineffective in his role on City Council.
Don't Rank Rene is an education campaign preparing Portland voters for the November 2024 Mayoral election.

Today, we’re holding space for the hard federal results—but there’s hope for Portland. Early votes show our community standing up against Rene’s divisive, dishonest politics.
As we wait for final counts, let’s stay patient, support each other, and thank the Multnomah County election workers who make it all possible. 💪🗳️

As commissioner of public safety, Rene Gonzalez has undermined essential harm reduction efforts and weakened Portland Street Response, the team that’s been crucial in addressing mental health crises and homelessness with compassion.
Instead of supporting PSR’s unarmed approach, Gonzalez imposed a hiring freeze, forced the team into encampment sweeps, and even prohibited them from distributing life-saving materials like tarps and tents. With funding cuts and management forced out, PSR’s ability to serve our most vulnerable has been seriously impacted at a time when Portland needs them most.
Don't Rank Rene. Portland deserves a mayor who treats our communities with empathy and tackles homelessness and public safety effectively.

Seems like Portlanders want a mayor who actually listens, supports real solutions, and respects all of us.

Rene Gonzalez tried to overturn voter-approved charter reforms just 18 months before they were set to take effect—ignoring the will of 57% of Portland voters and a two-year public process led by community groups. He’s also voiced support for overturning other voter-approved measures on climate resilience and police accountability.
🛑 Rene Gonzalez is wrong for Portland.

Rene Gonzalez wants to be our mayor after less than two years on the Portland City Council.
In that short time, he’s shown why he’s wrong for Portland—caught lying to the public, using taxpayer money to boost his image, and dismantling a key public safety program. His tenure has been marked by inaction and inefficiency.

The Multnomah County Republican Party has endorsed Donald Trump for President and Rene Gonzalez for Mayor.
Both Trump and Gonzalez have connections to right-wing extremists, use fearmongering on crime to persuade voters and attack people and organizations who are critical of them.
We believe he’s wrong for Portland.

The Portland auditor's office found that Rene Gonzalez misused public funds to edit his Wikipedia page, to promote himself as a “Democrat,” using city resources to support a key part of his mayoral strategy.
Gonzalez does have connections to right-wing extremists and anti-LGBTQ groups. His efforts to portray himself as a Democrat only serve to mask his troubling affiliations, including support for anti-LGBTQ candidates through his nonprofit ED300.
Portland deserves a leader who is honest and transparent, and reflects our Portland values.
