We have an idea… and we want to take it to the Oregon Legislature.

Require stores that sell baby chicks to post one simple warning:

Chicks sold as female can turn out to be roosters. Roosters are restricted in many communities. Know your local laws and HAVE A PLAN before you buy.

Sanctuaries and rescues are overwhelmed with unwanted roosters. Some are ultimately abandoned.

A sign is simple. Prevention is powerful.

I want to tell you about Lola and Malcolm (), because what they've done for this sanctuary deserves to be said out loud.

For years now, their Lily Foundation, started in memory of their beloved dog Lily, has given us a grant every single year. And this year they went even further: matching our hay fundraiser dollar for dollar, so every single gift from all of you did double duty, and giving again to carry us into year end.

Here's the thing about Lola. She spent her life in corporate America and then reinvented herself into this incredible artist and author, and she pours that same heart into every animal here. She even interviewed me for her vlog once, which was honestly one of the highlights of my year. Her book Monstrous is one of my favorite books, and her art is featured in the Quirk Show on Facebook right now. Go feast your eyes, it's stunning!

Honestly, I don't know how we'd have gotten through the last couple of years without them. Thank you for believing in the herd. 💛
