🔥 From Wild Idea to Masterpiece 🔥
Robert Ervin of Ervin Architecture turns a simple moment—spotting a turkey, taking the shot, and roasting it to perfection—into the perfect design metaphor.

Great architecture starts the same way:
🎯 Capture the idea
🧠 Refine + cultivate it
🔥 Transform it into a finished masterpiece

Just like the feast coming out of the oven… the best designs begin with instinct, evolve with intention, and end with something unforgettable.

In case you missed it, a huge congratulations to Waterfront Concerts for earning MEREDA’s (Maine Real Estate & Development Association) *“Project of the Year Award”* for 2023 for the iconic Maine Savings Amphitheater.

This recognition celebrates the vision, dedication, and impact that this project has brought to Maine’s entertainment scene and the effort that Waterfront Concerts made in investing in Maine's economy and cultural heritage. 🙌

Ervin Architecture was flattered to be honored for creating a world-class venue that has redefined the waterfront and elevated live music experiences for thousands of fans. 🎶✨

And a special thanks to MEREDA for all they have done, and continue to do, to support the great state of Maine.

Please note that recent modifications, including the rooftop lounges, are not included in this award from 2023. These updates are ongoing and will be unveiled as part of a "complete reveal" of the entire venue sometime in 2026.

Ervin Architecture joined forces with Chad Francis again in 2022 to produce an incredibly unique project for the repeat Ervin Architecture customer.

Ervin Architecture’s “Rock Barn,” as featured in The Wall Street Journal (link in bio), centers on a striking barn built around a 25‑foot‑high glacial boulder on a 9‑acre property in Phillips Lake, Maine. The two friends designed the projec on cocktail napkins during a chance bar meetup to discuss Chad’s interesting idea for a gathering space on the property that he and Rob just completed. Fast forward from that snowy winter day sketching together, to today, the barn was built by an all star group including King Construction Services & Hampden Electrical, now serves as a multifunctional entertainment space—complete with a Cor‑Ten steel bar, boot rail, poker room, and bathroom cleverly integrated into the rock’s crevices.

This project is really a "see it to believe it" type space with many clever design flourishes authored equally by both Francis and Ervin in a complete design partnership. In addition to taxidermied animals complete with a hunting perch, patriotic memorabilia, a bar you might see in a California mining camp during the gold rush, and other intrigueing components, the design has pragmatic functional aspects as well. The rock’s thermal mass helps regulate the interior climate, enhancing comfort year‑round. This unique design complements the rugged rustic stone and timber main house and an original 1930s cabin (still standing), reflecting the owner’s passion for outdoor living and hosting seasonal gatherings—amid Maine’s harsh winter weather.

🎶 When the Beat Drops, The Crowd Rises Up 🎶
There’s nothing like a sold-out summer night at Maine Savings Amphitheater Maine Savings Amphitheater —where the crowd stands shoulder to shoulder, swaying under the stars. As the music pulses through the open air, thousands rise together, lit by the electric glow of the stage. The lights dance across the sea of fans, casting golden halos, catching hands in the air, and turning every face into part of the show.

✨ You don’t sit at a concert like this—you feel it.

At the heart of Old Town, Maine, The Trust Room at Kanù breathes new life into the former Eastern Trust Bank—now a stunning “old world” speakeasy-meets-modern bar and event space. According to ARCHITECT magazine, it’s been masterfully “transformed into a lively ‘old world’ speakeasy” by Ervin Architecture, who skillfully restored neoclassical features like ceiling moldings, palladium windows, plasterwork, and brickwork—all while weaving in a fresh, contemporary flair.

Their adaptive reuse approach didn’t stop there: original stone tile from the teller’s desk now anchors the floor, and the historic walk-in vault has been repurposed into a temperature-controlled wine cuvée—complete with reclaimed mahogany cabinetry

The result? A vibrant destination that honors Old Town’s rich past while offering a bold, sophisticated spot for tonight’s celebrations. 🍷

In case you missed it, Robert was featured in the Miami Herald discussing the music scene in Florida. This market is ripe for continued expansion in the live music sector, particularly outdoor venues like Maine Savings Amphitheater Link in bio.

06/30/2025

Architect Magazine ARCHITECT magazine called Maine Savings Amphitheater "an architectural marvel" and added "...the Maine Savings Amphitheater is sophisticated state-of-the art live entertainment facility in Bangor, Maine. ...The venue, designed by Ervin Architecture (EA), is the largest assembly occupancy facility north of Boston, and has become the premier destination in northern New England for live entertainment, routinely drawing fans from Boston, Montreal, and Halifax, Nova Scotia.“sophisticated state‑of‑the‑art live entertainment facility”.

This is a look east back in late summer of 2024 during a setting western sun; one of the last glimpses of the venue without the rooftop expansion. The rooftop expansion has forever altered the original design but we think it is an immense improvement. Pics to come regarding this exciting expansion and the final phase of a nearly 8 year expansion plan by Concerts
