The current issue of THE LIAHONA has a great article by Elder Rasband. It reminds me of our family motto: Be Useful For Good.

We Are Called to Do Good We build the kingdom of God as we serve others, hold up our light, and stand for religious freedom.

Premortal Life and Mortal Life: A Fearful Symmetry 06/19/2024

The current issue of THE INTERPRETER has an inspiring article by Jeffrey Bradshaw. Following are the introductory paragraphs:

"A friend once told me a story about an elderly woman in his ward who had passed away. The woman, who had planned the details of her funeral service in advance, had selected organ music for the program and listed my friend’s wife as the one who should play it. She struggled as she practiced, not only because the piece was difficult, but also because the deceased woman had a reputation of being very critical of other people. As she played, she reflected in discouragement that if that woman had been there to hear her mistakes, she would have received an earful of mean comments. Then, suddenly, she heard the voice of the woman in her mind. It said, “I’m not like that now.”

"Of course, I relate this story not as a commentary on the life of a singular person but rather as a reminder of our shared condition. I find personal encouragement in these words from beyond the veil. They impress on me the truth that, after death, not only will our physical and mental infirmities be removed but also many of the chronic personality dispositions that challenge our best efforts to overcome them. That the deceased woman was so quickly freed from fastidiousness at death, with no prolonged period of repentance required to effect the change, reminds us that human weakness should not be summarily ascribed to sin."

Premortal Life and Mortal Life: A Fearful Symmetry Abstract: Bodily weakness, along with the varied circumstances into which we were born, provide the essential initial and ongoing conditions that shape the challenges and opportunities of our mortal probation. In life, we are not expected merely to preserve our innocence in defiance of worldly tende

In the new housing economy, I’ll read some article where a house was sold for $150 Million, and I’m thinking “ well that’s not a lot for an entire mansion”. 🤔

I have reflected many times on the miracle of the coming forth of The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Today we commemorate the 200th anniversary of the angel Moroni’s first visit to the Prophet Joseph Smith. What a remarkable visitation this was! Moroni was a messenger sent from God to teach Joseph Smith about the work that God had for him to do. Moroni became one of Joseph’s major tutors.

On his first visit, Moroni told Joseph Smith that “there was a book deposited, written upon gold plates, giving an account of the former inhabitants of this continent. … the fulness of the everlasting gospel was contained in it, as delivered by the Savior to the ancient inhabitants.”

Joseph Smith translated this ancient record “by the gift and power of God.” This record is known today as the Book of Mormon.

I cherish the Book of Mormon and the opportunity to study its teachings. It is a thrill to invite visiting dignitaries to learn of its profound teachings of Jesus Christ.

The true value of the Book of Mormon can be summed up in the words of a man I taught many years ago in Accra, Ghana.

This man was a serious student of the Bible and one who loved the Lord. I explained to him that after the Savior’s Crucifixion and Resurrection He came to the people of ancient America to whom He taught His gospel.

Together, he and I read the Savior’s sermon to the people of the Americas. I then presented a copy of the Book of Mormon to him, to which he said:

“You could have given me diamonds or rubies, but nothing is more precious to me than this additional knowledge about the Lord Jesus Christ.”

On this 200-year anniversary, I ask each of us to consider: What is this book worth to you? If you were offered diamonds and rubies or the Book of Mormon, which would you choose?

I testify that the Book of Mormon is truly the word of God. It contains the answers to life’s most compelling questions. Its truths have the power to inspire, comfort, restore, strengthen, console, and cheer our souls.

It is my hope that each of us will see this book, today and always, as it really is: more precious than all the riches in the world.
