Come make bug prints with us! We will have guest teacher Ash Earls showing how to cut your own linoleum blocks and make prints with them. Use our live bug zoo and pinned specimens as reference! We’ve got two events coming up this Sunday!

There are only two spots left in our mantis terrarium workshop. If you want a pet mantis and everything you need to take care of them, now is your chance. We have baby Giant Asian Mantises (only available through the workshop).

It’s going to be hot outside this weekend but we will be at Peninsula Park looking for bugs from 2-3pm. We will show you how to find, catch, and identify our local arthropods.

Tomorrow all day during general admission come see the Insect Safari! Meet and talk with entomologist Don Ehlen about his amazing collection of pinned insects.

Due to the size of the collection, we do not have space for our regular activity area and touchable bugs so these will not be available.

Do you want to learn pinning techniques but don’t want to spend a lot of money or potentially break a fancy specimen? Take our discounted pinning class! We will be using darkling beetles raised here at the insectarium. We did not purchase these and so are able to offer a cheaper class. You will get two specimens so you are able to practice on one first. Tickets at www.pdxinsectarium.org

Take a walk with us! We will be at peninsula park at 4pm on May 10th to show you how to find, catch, and identify local bugs. One bug-catching vial is included but we have full bug-catching kits available, as well. Swipe to see some of the bugs I’ve found lately!

Here is our May calendar! We are slowly expanding our hours as more people want to visit and we are able to hire some staff. It’s still very busy lately and we are almost always fully booked so hopefully this way we can accommodate more people in our small space until we can move. We are now open 10am-7pm most weekends. Reservations are highly recommended.

If you’ve been wanting to hold a tarantula, now is a good time to sign up. Usually our tarantula handling sessions are fully booked within a week of the event but there are currently 10 spots available for this Friday, so get on it!

Our first bug walk of the season is on the 10th! Join us at Peninsula Park and learn how to find, catch, and identify our local bugs.

The pinning class this month is beginner-friendly. If you’ve been wanting to learn but are afraid of breaking a fancy specimen, in this discounted class you will have two darkling beetles to practice with. The beetles were born and raised here at the insectarium.

Learn the basics of entomology in our 2-hour intro to entomology class and guided tour of the insectarium.

We are handling a variety of arachnids on the 31st so if you’ve already handled a tarantula and are ready to move on to scorpions and others, now is your chance!

Join us at for our first all-ages drink and draw! Get some hot chocolate, tea, or soda (there is beer and cider for those of she) and draw some bugs! 29 April 4-7pm at 8811 N Lombard street.

Come learn about microscopes! We have preserved specimens, prepared slides, and live microscopic organisms to view. Water bears, springtails, mites, and more! Ages 10+ recommended.

Optional Moo microscope kit contains: one , informational booklet, and a specimen.
