Look at that devastated, violence strewn south waterfront! As seen from the OHSU tram this morning while taking my kid for a ride on it after a doctor’s appointment right down the street from the ICE facility.
By the way, sane people, yes, Portland is this beautiful.

L is for Lingnan University. OTD (Sept. 12) in 1936, Melville Jacoby first visited the campus of Lingnan — then located in Guangzhou (Canton) on the campus of what is now Sun Yat-Sen University — and began a transformative year studying abroad in China. K is for Kunming, capital of Yunnan in southern China. Melville Jacoby made these images In August, 1940, when he stopped in Kunming en route to a stint freelancing for the United Press in Hanoi. A case of malaria kept Mel in Kunming longer than he planned, but after months amid the deprivations of wartime Chungking he still marveled at the taste of real coffee, fresh sandwich bread, and the sight of storefronts filled with chocolate, ci******es and brandy.
Finally back with more of the Mel Jacoby A to Z series. What other kinds of images would you like to see?
