In honor of Indigenous People’s Day, here is a reminder to non-indigenous people (including myself) that we occupy Native land.

Personally, I’m exploring what it means to decolonize my work, and right now I have a lot of questions but not a ton of answers.

What I have figured out is that a critical question for decolonization is: what is my relationship with the land?

Do I see it as property? Something to “own” and exploit the resources of? Or do I see it as a living, breathing part of Nature, that I am here to both nurture and receive from? That I am a PART of?

I’m still unpacking this for myself and will continue to explore as a person committed to the liberation of Black, INDIGENOUS, People of Color

In the meantime, I highly suggest you check out to learn from some brilliant Native people

Had an amazing week at , presenting my first pre conference with Dawn Lee (right) and Pam Chao (not pictured). Portland was a fun city to explore and I got to meet so many wonderful people! I’m looking forward to attending again and have so many ideas for future sessions!

The foundation for my anti racist praxis is understanding that our work together begins with relationship. That’s why I like to send handwritten cards to my clients, because there’s something special about the tangible, personalized card that was sent via snail mail. It is an intentional act of slowing down and connection. It is a small act of defiance to go slow when white supremacy culture demands urgency.

It’s also an opportunity to write with my fountain pen (my newest pandemic hobby), which is helping me enjoy the act of writing as well. Even though I invariably make mistakes, I feel the imperfections are just another reminder of my humanity, and I hope that allows clients to show up more fully human as we work together.

For me, is about radical acts of AND . It's easy to get lost in the hurt and pain that oppression causes, which feeds into the dogmatic ideology of "call out culture" or "cancel culture." However, when we lose sight of people's humanity, we give up hope that they (and by extension, the world) can change. Making sure that I do my own self-healing work so that I can keep hope alive is absolutely necessary so that I can continue to approach my work with .
