🚀 On May 22nd, 1946, the United States launched its rocket—dubbed the WAC Corporal (after the Woman’s Army Corps)—to reach the edge of space.

This technology was a direct forerunner of the Service Propulsion System later used in the Apollo program to land the first man on the moon!

🔔 The Second Continental Congress passed laws acting as a de facto government during the Revolutionary War.

Just over one year after it convened, the Congress would adopt the Lee Resolution—formally declaring independence from British rule on July 2nd, 1775. (Spoiler Alert: The Declaration of Independence would be agreed to on July 4th.)

🪡 🧵 On May 8th, 1783, Betsy Ross wed John Claypoole—a Revolutionary War veteran and POW—at Christ Church in Philadelphia.

Betsy not only gave birth to seven daughters but is considered by many to be a “Founding Mother” for her role in America’s infancy.

🎯 May 2nd, 2011: After a nearly decade-long manhunt, Osama bin Laden was killed at his hideout in Pakistan by United States Navy SEALs of the U.S. Naval Special Warfare Development Group—also known as DEVGRU or SEAL Team Six.

The SEAL team leader confirmed mission success by radioing, "For God and country—Geronimo, Geronimo, Geronimo… Geronimo EKIA" (enemy killed in action).

🫖 249 years ago on this day, Britain passed The Tea Act of 1773—in large part to bail out the failing East India Company.

A short eight months later, American Colonial resistance to over-reaches of British rule would culminate in the Boston Tea Party aboard three ships transporting the East India Company’s tea: The Dartmouth, the Beaver, and the Eleanor.

Just five days after the Confederate army surrendered at Appomattox Court House—ending the Civil War—John Wilkes Booth shot Abraham Lincoln at Ford’s Theatre on the evening of April 14th, 1865.

The President would die from his head wounds the following day… While his legacy of “the preservation of the Union, the vindication of democracy, and the death of slavery” would live on.
